dm, dmil, db and dson are all around the 2.5 mile mark, maybe half a mile either way.
dsis is 90 miles away
rarely see db, maybe at xmas and special occasions, dsis once a monthish. dson he tends to just pop in a few times a week but hes moving slightly nearer soon so no doubt ill be up helping more often.
dmil can be every few weeks when home, in summer its pretty much every weekend at the coast.
dm most days as im her carer too

Mum, two brothers, sister in law, nieces and nephew, 3 separate households - 25 miles, 45 minutes or so
Two sisters, 2 separate households - 32 miles, 50 minutes or so
Same direction, so they all live very close to each other

PIL - 2 miles so five minutes if that
BIL1 - 4 miles so five minutes or so
BIL2, SIL, niece and nephews - 40 miles, about an hour

waitingformygirl · 12/02/2022 20:04

We live in a triangle with 12 miles between us all. But we just moved back to the area after a long time away. Lockdown gave us the push we needed.

Svara · 12/02/2022 20:04

My DS lives with me, parents, a sibling and nephew 10000 miles away. The rest of my family are in between.

We live 170 miles away from both sides of the family (my parents and in-laws). It's been so hard bringing up children away from them and I wouldn't recommend it but now our children have roots where we are it would be really difficult to move back x

We live in the same town I grew up but my mum moved away when I left home at 16 and my sister followed her eventually. We live not far from a motorway so we can travel as DH's family are 20 and 30 miles away with his DM in another country now, but she was 20 miles away.

NameChangeNymph · 12/02/2022 20:14

Parents - 1 mile
Siblings - 4 miles (in opposite directions)
MIL - 205 miles

(All according to Google maps)

mrscotton · 12/02/2022 20:22

My parents - 25 mins
My brother, SIL & kids - 20 mins (they live in the same town as my parents but a closer area to our village)
MIL - 45 mins
FIL & BIL- 3 and half hours (my husband lived in London & moved to our area with his Mum 20 odd years ago. We see his Dad & Brother 3/4 times a year).

ButtockUp · 12/02/2022 20:44

Mum is nearly 200 miles away
BIL and SIL both around 70 miles away
Daughter 60 miles away
Son over 200 miles away

MsSquiz · 12/02/2022 20:53

FIL - 0.2 miles/ 8 mins walk (the next street)
BIL (DH's brother) & SIL - 1.6 miles/ 30 mins walk (same village)
SIL (DH's sister) - 7.5 miles

I don't have any immediate family

WinnieMac · 12/02/2022 20:57

It always surprises me how many people on MN live close to their families. I'm about 90 mins away from my younger sibling, and everyone else is further away. I get on very well with them all, but we don't need to live on top of one another. It might have made things easier when the children were little, but you hardly decide to have children based on whether your family are local or not. Don't middle class/professional people normally move where their jobs are, anyway?

RevolvingPivot · 12/02/2022 21:01

@WinnieMac

My Mum, Brother and Sister all have professional careers but work either in our city or the next town.

Unfortunately my husband job means he needs to be in 1 of 3 places in the UK which happens to be Scotland.

I'm a 2 hour plane ride away from my own family. DH's sister and her family are 45 minutes away. DH's Father and stepmother are 2 hours away. DH's grandmother is 3 hours away. We're seeing them tomorrow but haven't seen them since September. Saw his sis and family at Christmas to drop gifts off. I haven't seen my own family in 2 1/2 years but hope to see them soon.

I did that (from the north west to London) and then my brother also got a job in London and my parents moved to be closer to be near the grand kids. So we're all down south now.
TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 12/02/2022 21:02

Mum, MIL, about 200 miles
Brother around 200 miles
BIL 150 miles
Aunt 50 miles

See everyone once a year or so, but obviously not in the last 2 years

pumpkinpie01 · 12/02/2022 21:03

My sister - 30 yards
My mum - 3 min walk
My oldest son - 5 min walk
Middle son - just moved 50 miles away
Daughter - 100 miles
Dad - 50 miles

LoveFall · 12/02/2022 21:04

One son nearby, with granddaughter, and grandson a couple of hours away at uni.

Sisters are both quite far. One all the way on the other side of North America. The other a good 4 hour drive if traffic is ok.

Brother a long drive, ferry trip, another long drive.

Youngest son and his family in the UK. Nine hours on a plane at least.

Letsleepingcats · 12/02/2022 21:06

Unless you have mobility problems why can't you just walk, cycle or run to see them? That's like half an hour away at most?

dizzydizzydizzy · 12/02/2022 21:06

DM 26 miles
DD about 18 miles
DB about 50 miles

MsSquiz · 12/02/2022 21:12

@WinnieMac DH's family are as middle class as they come!
SIL works in the village she lives in, DH & BIL are in local property development & BIL's wife works next to their kids' school. We all moved around the same time to the same village as we all love it here. It's also nice for my DD (and imminent DD) to live close to her cousins, but not on top of each other. We maybe only see BIL & SIL once every 2 weeks

WotsitMum · 12/02/2022 21:14

Parents and siblings all live in the same road 1.1 miles away, fil also lives in the same road. Mil lives the road before so 1 mile away. My nan lives a few roads down from mine 0.4 miles away and grandad 3.3 miles away. All live very close, its nice but theres no way i would go move to the same road as my parents, siblings and fil, its a rough area and i like that little bit of distance as theres no one realy who just pops in unnanounced but i know my siblings and parents practicaly live in eachothers pockets poping to eachothers on a daily basis
