Have you had an allergy test?

Does anyone know where I can get an allergy test - are there any big recommended providers?
I don’t want a ‘do it yourself and post it back’ test - I want to go somewhere reputable.
Obviously happy to pay.
Any recommendations please?
I’m just outside of London - Surrey border.
TIA

Could try Nuffield Hospitals at Woking Or Guildford as Nuffield offer allergy testing. Or perhaps Runnymede hospital at Chertsey?

Nuffield Pathology Direct do IgE allergy blood testing but without a clinical assessment it's not diagnostic (you can be IgE positive but not react in real life).

I was very impressed with the immunologist I saw at Allergy London (the 2 main consultants are based at Guys). You'll likely need a GP referral to see an immunologist.

What do you think you are allergic to? Is there a reason your GP isn't referring you?

SilverHairedCat · 12/02/2022 15:22

Whatever you do, don't fall for the scams like York Tests, hair samples, fingerprick tests etc. www.nhs.uk/conditions/food-allergy/diagnosis/

What are you thinking you're allergic to? Food, environment etc require bet different approaches.

It’s actually for my 17 year old. A couple of years ago he developed a skin condition - red scaly patches mainly. He is under the dermatologist at the hospital who says it’s eczema but I’m not convinced. The problem is very localised and none of the creams have made the slightest difference - and believe me he has had all sorts.
The dermatologist is lovely but even she can’t give me an answer as to why nothing seems to be working. My GP is next to useless and I know referrals on the NHS are taking ages at the moment, so in desperation I thought I’d try allergy testing to see if that gives any answers.
People give well meaning advice such as cut out dairy, wheat, etc, but I don’t want to just start randomly start cutting out food groups. I’d rather look into getting him tested first.
The problem is mainly on his face and neck and naturally he is very self conscious about it. I’m worried it’s starting to affect his mental health.

Aah, ok. Allergy testing isn't typically used or useful for that type of skin condition. Exclusion is usually the first step.

I’m just getting desperate Yarnivore and will try anything to help him

I totally understand the desperation Flowers

But it does place you at risk of being ripped off by snake oil merchants, so you need to make sure you don't get taken in. Some are very convincing.

If you're looking at private then maybe look for a specialist dermatologist.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 12/02/2022 17:00

What kind of allergy? You can only do a test for Ige allergies not none IGE allergies.

PoptartPoptart · 12/02/2022 17:55

I don’t know! Maybe I’m clutching at straws.
But the dermatologist hasn’t been able to help and it’s been nearly 2 years now. She just keeps saying try this cream and that cream and it never works. I don’t know what else to do. His skin looks awful.

Has he ever had a biopsy of the affected area? It may be worth looking into seeing a private dermatologist (or a different private one if the one your DC is already seeing one) before pursuing allergy testing as that may not give any answers whereas biopsy might throw some light on what’s happening

PoptartPoptart · 12/02/2022 23:01

A biopsy was mentioned by the dermatologist awhile ago Rememberallball but then it never happened- I must ask about it at the next appointment
Thanks
