Has anyone else gone off Wordle because of the tactical players trying to always get it in 2 or 3!!!

I know it shouldn’t matter and I’m trying not to engage. I started wordle a month a go after a conversation with a college tutor. I love word games and puzzles etc and working things out. Was having a few good guesses and then lots of friends, colleagues and fb contacts are playing now, but nearly all of them are using words like adieu, unity and arose each time to start so they can solve it as quickly as possible. Which obviously is fine and their right. I like to put a random word in then see if I can get it before the end, love the challenge and am still on a 100% streak.

I keep getting ooh I beat you etc and it’s pissing me off, ruining it and I’m throwing my toys out!!!

@NiceTwin maybe time for a username rethink or was eviltwin taken?

@Hummingbirdcake

I never talk about Wordle, I just do it.
Same (except now I'm talking about it...Grin).

I do get annoyed (unreasonably so, I know) by the people who insist on posting their efforts on social media every day, because it's just not very interesting. I wish there was a way of hiding all Wordle-related posts!

@willweevergetthere

Ha - I'm saving that one to use! Grin

Internetio · 12/02/2022 13:12

I use the same starting word every day- Audio. My mother and I compete on wordle and nerdle, which as she is a former head of Mathematics, is both amusing and satisfying when I beat her to it.

NiceTwin · 12/02/2022 13:15

@BamberGascoine not sure what you mean?!

What I really wanted to write would have been eviltwin, nicetwin is still alive and kicking Wink

HunkyPunk · 12/02/2022 13:15

Have a go at French Wordle (not a euphemism!) if you want a challenge. It’s not as impossible as you might think, if you can dredge up a few French words from school, or even words which sound as though they could be French!

elizabethdraper · 12/02/2022 13:36

I have never shared my wordle score

I usually start with audio or doula

Bosephine · 12/02/2022 13:38

Try Quordle- 4 wordles at once.

affairsofdragons · 12/02/2022 13:41

@listsandbudgets

I look at whatever I was last reading and choose a five letter word from that.

Having just read your post, I think I'll start with "streak"

'Streak' has 6 letters Grin
OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/02/2022 13:43

A family member and I have different starting words. It's interesting to compare efficiency from an analytical rather than competitive viewpoint. I don't generally share my scores otherwise. I'm indifferent as to whether people get it faster than me or not.

doodlejump1980 · 12/02/2022 13:43

I always start with miaou gets the vowels sorted but I still struggle to get it in less than 4 or 5

Cantleave · 12/02/2022 13:45

@eddiemairswife

I start with any 5-letter word that pops into my head. How about Nerdle the maths version? I find that more challenging. There's one called called Globle, but that didn't seem to recognise some countries.
Thanks for that Eddie, I will give Globle a go. I play Nerdle too, and agree, it is more challenging.

Anyone else know any more like these?

For others liking puzzles, Puzzle Page has a game called Wordy, basically the same as Wordle.

londonmummy1966 · 12/02/2022 13:46

DH is getting irritated with DD2 for sending over her daily wordle score which is nearly always 2. Largely because his is usually 4 but also because lots of pupils in her boarding house do it first thing and give her tips like what the first letter is.....

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 12/02/2022 13:46

A friend of mine shared this song from the Holderness family this week, it is brilliant

camelfinger · 12/02/2022 13:52

I find it more interesting to come up with a new word each day. If I get it in 3, I’m almost disappointed because it’s over. One of my favourite days was when I was hungover, I made 2 mistakes and was really close to not getting it in 6. I’m more interested in the patterns that lead to the right answer.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/02/2022 14:03

What’s wrong with using a starter word to get the vowels out of the way? It is then far easier to guess in 3.

TheRealHousewife · 12/02/2022 14:28

@Phlora

The fun for me is picking a random word to start. Nothing more boring than getting yellow a e and s on your first go Grin

Today's was prick and I still got it in 4.

I’ve done todays (in 2) and it wasn’t Prick. Do different countries have different words 🤷‍♀️
TheRealHousewife · 12/02/2022 14:32

@Phlora ignore me, need to learn comprehension 😬

MrsTophamHat · 12/02/2022 14:40

I've just started this week and I want to get it in 3 each day. Managed it yesterday but was 4 today. Start word is stare.

Cantleave · 12/02/2022 15:11

@Bosephine

Try Quordle- 4 wordles at once.
Just tried this and it’s a lot harder than Wordle! Would definitely recommend it. Think I will enjoy the challenge this brings, more than Wordle. Thanks Bosephine Grin
BamberGascoine · 12/02/2022 15:29

@Mummyoflittledragon there’s nothing wrong with it if that’s your aim. But like @camelfinger said the fun of the game for me is the process for working it out. My op does say it’s ok we all do it differently , my issue is with people comparing the stats when they are not playing it in the same way!!

OP posts:
longwayoff · 12/02/2022 15:34

I start with a word containing as many vowels as possible. I have 100% solved and a very high player rating in online Scrabble which I play against the computer or, occasionally, a person. I don't often play against a real person as I might demoralise a kid, we're all anonymous. Nobody but me cares about this and I play for the pleasure of solving a puzzle. If it upsets you don't share it.

vdbfamily · 12/02/2022 15:41

We have a family Wordle group but no one hugely competitive. I used to start with Arose until a neice sussed my starter word and could then cheat😂I now mix it up a bit. Used a totally new starter today and got 4 letters correct. 2 in right place, so was then not hard to guess it on second try!
