Gift for a man who has everything...

It's my brother's 40th later in the year and I'm trying to think of what to get him. He is on a very high salary and has pretty much everything he needs. He's been a fantastic brother to me in recent years, very supportive and helped me out with lots of stuff too. I'd like to buy him a decent present for his 40th.

What do I get him? He likes cars (obviously I can't get him one of those!).Cycling, eating out, travel etc. He's difficult enough to buy for usually. Any ideas?

Budget

If he’s into cycling, get him some fancy non-cycling frippery from Rapha. iPad case, belt that kind of thing.

Or go down the “it’s the thought that counts” route and get something related to your childhood. Trip to a seaside town you used to visit, frame a childhood painting of his, a lovely edition of his favourite book….

The script of his favourite film?

For my sister’s 40th I got 1st editions of books first published in the month she was born. None were particularity pricey, took a bit of hunting via ABE books.

What's your budget? My most well received gifts have been subscriptions so the recipient gets a surprise in the post every month long after the event.
If he also cooks, check out a subscription to The Spicery. Everything I've made from them has been amazing and the date night box has been very well received as wedding gifts.
My DH is a man who has everything and I bought him a subscription for My Odd Balls. They deliver a pair of boxers and socks in some very crazy prints every month. I loved them so much I ended up buying the woman's subscription Grin
For my sister and her family I bought them a subscription brownie box that went down a storm for Christmas. They're in Ireland so I won't bother recommending the company!

Has he got an Aeropress? DH says it’s the best present I ever gave him. I don’t drink coffee, so I can’t comment.

My Dad is very difficult to buy for but at Christmas I got him a replica of a Corgi James Bond toy car he had when he was a wee boy, along witn a book about all the cars used in the films.

He was really pleased with it and it made a lovely gift.

If he has a particular favourite car or a movie where cars feature heavily something along those lines might be nice?

Yeah I get experiences for those types of dudes. If he's into cars then a supercar driving experience voucher might be good.

Why not take him out for a meal and theatre tickets to see a show? Or even a cycling even you can watch together?

Hey thanks for the suggestions everyone.

He's not super into cycling (he doesn't race and I'm not sure if he's on Strava?) but has a good bike and goes on trails with friends in the summer etc. An experience type thing might be good but he's done a supercar day already and has one of his own now. He has some kind of coffee maker but not sure what I'd have to check. At least I've got a while to think about it. I think I'd like to get him something fun though as opposed to practical. Also fixed date gifts like shows are probably out because he's going to be working away from home for weeks at a time so no idea when he'd be available.

Maybe a subscription type gift although I don't think I'd get him underwear, that would be weird haha.

I'd say maybe around £100 budget but need to see what's out there hmm.

DH has everything he'd ever need it want, so for Christmas I bought him an owl handling experience - it was amazing. The whole family went, and it was a fantastic day, looking round the sanctuary, and having the owls fly to our outstretched arms. The staff were so knowledgeable and we'd go again at the drop of a hat.

See, I'd love an owl handling experience and hot air balloon ride, not sure about DB though! He might be a bit wtf about those kind of things. He likes weekends away, but that's probably out of budget also I'm not paying for his partner to go somewhere, just him or him and me. He does drink a bit, wine, beer etc so maybe something like that.

Maybe a book about cars, the history, the most famous models or significant events in the industry? Vouchers for his favorite restaurant? If he travels a lot you can think of stuff he may need,like a nice water bottle or a plug adapter or a travel slideshow program. Could be even a wall art.
A bottle of nice wine or whiskey would be a great addition, too.
