How things have changed on a Friday night.

I'm lying on the sofa under a blanket with my kindle, wondering if it's too late at nearly 9 to have a hot chocolate because the sugar will keep me awake.

10 years ago I'd only now be heading out for the night for about 8 pints, possibly some other questionable substances, and would fall into bed full of donner meat at 3am with my ears ringing from loud metal.

Anyone else now thoroughly boring but actually really enjoying it?

Very similar, and I love it 90% of the time.... but every now and then I long for the days of getting dressed up, grabbing 20 Marlboro Lights and a lip gloss and heading to the local nightclub.

Solongtoshort · 11/02/2022 21:26

Friday nights used to last days when l was younger, go out with £10 come back with £5 and have a ball.now l am on my pjs by 8pm, and l will be in bed by 10pm.

SallyWD · 11/02/2022 21:27

God yes. I used to be a party animal. Party all night, even during the week sometimes. These days I put my pyjamas on around 6pm and head to bed around 9pm to read. Love it.

cheektpara · 11/02/2022 21:29

It's quite nice really isn't it?

I was invited out tomorrow night and my first thought was but it's cold and dark outside and my pyjamas are so warm and nice. Thankfully that was cancelled anyway. I just can't quite imagine leaving the house intentionally after 8pm anymore and I'm only 37!

Very excited about the roast gammon and goose fat potatoes I'm cooking tomorrow though. That's about as rock and roll as I can cope with these days. Grin

Yep, I remember happy hour pints at uni being £1 from 8-9pm. So I'd buy 4 at 8.55pm and be drinking flat warm beer the rest of the night.

It seemed glorious at the time though.

I’m watching the Stone Roses on Sky.

I was probably watching them 30 years ago to be fair.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 11/02/2022 21:37

I don't hanker after a Friday night out. A Sunday sesh was always my favourite!

pinacoladaandpeanuts · 11/02/2022 21:41

I'm cuddled up with my one year old baby boy in bed watching tv while he sleeps. Husband is downstairs watching something else... we had curry for tea and my house is so warm and cosy. Nothing beats this!

MintMe · 11/02/2022 21:44

My husband joked that he spent his 20s waiting to be 40. He loves nothing more than listening to Liza on radio 2 in the bath on a Saturday night!

FusionChefGeoff · 11/02/2022 21:48

Roast gammon and roast potatoes on a Saturday??

Omg i am exactly like that.
Ilikecheeseontoast · 11/02/2022 21:50

Yessss! I use my young children as a reason why I can’t go out at night now (who on earth would babysit 3 under 4?!) but really I just like staying in all cosy in my dressing gown and slippers drinking tea! I partied Hardin my twenties and am so over it now!

BuddhaForMary · 11/02/2022 21:53

I love it. Telly on, pjs on, full bellies, happy kids. Nothing beats this.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 11/02/2022 21:57

I have found my people!

tiggergoesbounce · 11/02/2022 21:58

Yes that is me now and im 39.

I love nothing more than curling up on a weekend night watching rubbish TV. My DH works weekend nights, so im in bed now, which i love.

I partied really hard in my 20s (and early 30s really), so im pretty done with it all. Occasionally i get the urge and i go out, i love to dance but then ive "scratched that itch" so to speak for another good few months.

I would just be getting ready,,waiting to go out now. I loved it, but i couldn't think of anything worse now. If we go out now its about 8 o clock and we are back before 12.00. 🤣

BuddhaForMary · 11/02/2022 22:01

I had my eldest 2 kids really young, so my 20s were pretty tame anyway. IF I got a night out I was always conscious of the fact I had to be functioning to care for them come morning when I collected them. Then I got married and added to my brood and decided I'm much happier being at home anyway. My ex says I was born old and he's probably right Grin

I'm going to a stone roses tribute soon. And it's a Friday night!

Yay, I love that other people are the same.

Boring is the new cool.

Oh god yeah me too. I'm currently watching Ice Pilots and quite fancy the manager

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 12/02/2022 00:02

Been out for dinner tonight and my friend and l were saying this too.
Was nice to see her but neither of us wanted to be out much past 9pm!

episcomama · 12/02/2022 00:05

Yup! Drinking a bottle of cheap wine as I'm getting ready, not getting warmed up till close to 10.

Now I'm in my sweats with a bottle of red and debating which of my four new books to dig into first. I'll be in bed by 10. Love it.

episcomama · 12/02/2022 00:07

And the memories of trekking from pub to pub around the town center...I can't believe we did it! Now in the rare times I go to the pub I want a proper comfy seat and not to move!

Strokethefurrywall · 12/02/2022 00:58

Ditto. But would also have an aching neck from headbanging. I probably would also be peeling off my goth make up and PVC trousers!

My Friday night involves watching a family movie on the couch and enjoying some beer and a take out! And I love it!!

ImprobablePuffin · 12/02/2022 02:14

I've just turned 37 and I behave like I'm 80. Have done for years truth be told. I just like my sofa of an evening, watching some Marvel, comfortable pyjamas, blanket. Bliss.

I mean what can beat dinner on your lap and elasticated waistbands?!
