Today I realised that I always try and reverse into a parking space when ever I can - makes things easier for later (plus you usually have better control in reverse imho)

Also taught 11yoDS how to wrap a present for his mate and said how I believe a gift without a bow is a little bit underdressed.

Any others I may have missed?

Always shut cupboard doors and drawers. I cant stand them open.

Vinotinto78 · 11/02/2022 21:53

Mince pies may only be eaten in December.
I concur with the top/bottom peg protocol outlined above but would add that the washing line must be wiped before any clothes are pegged out. Every time.

Izzabellasasperella · 11/02/2022 22:04

@RusholmeRuffian

Never drink in a flat roofed pub

Why? (Although I might be able to guess)

HappinessButterfly · 11/02/2022 22:06

@peaceanddove

Never leave the house without my every day make up on.

Never leave the house without our bed being neatly made, kitchen surfaces clear and living room tidy - so house is always nice to come home to.

Always knock back 2 pints of water when I get up. Then I feel able to mainline coffee for the rest of the day.

Just before he falls asleep, DH has to rest his right hand on my left hip (he sleeps on his back, and I sleep on my right side facing away from him). He can't sleep otherwise and neither can I. Bonkers, I know!

Same! His right hand on my left hip. He has been away for the last 2 nights, I couldn’t sleep.
Applebrewsterstea · 11/02/2022 22:24

To not make new year resolutions. But a week later can set myself something I’d like to achieve. I hate broken New Years resolutions. I have no idea when or why I started it.

This thread is funny, thanks :)
I've been reading this and feel like a weirdo. I have no self imposed silly rules. happily use any spoon/cup/plate, ....
I usually reverse, because for me it is easier and can usually do it in 1 go.
not rules, but habits:

 1. we don't own any drinking/wine glasses. never had. we have about 30+ mugs with various pig designs from all over the world. every morning coffee is a reminder of some fun time somewhere :)
 2. okay, I have 1, but even my H doesn't officially knows this (he does, but will never talk about it and pretend it doesn't happen). Wherever we go (holiday, business trip - not friends house) i steal a teaspoon. My collection is by now huge and gets rotated every few months so i get to use all of them from time to time :)
so come to think of it - i am just as (ab)normal as anyone else :)
Crucible · 11/02/2022 22:47

Always reverse in where possible it is much safer to pull a car into the space, it reduces roll back accidents.

I use a new clean flannel every time I bath or shower

When doing a new recipe for the first time I absolutely faithfully stick to it out of courtesy to the writer/cook/chef

I hand peanuts directly to squirrels. No leaving them to find, it must be handed over (we have tame squirrels)

Crowdfundingforcake · 11/02/2022 22:55

Line pegging, tops from the bottom, but bottoms, especially jeans, from the bottom too. It means the breeze dries them better and you don't end up with damp waistbands and have to leave them out overnight for the spiders to wipe their willies on.

Packing shopping, pretty much as pp - store cupboard items, then fresh not needing refrigeration, then fridge, then freezer.

No baked bean must ever be left in the tin.

howdidigettobe50something · 11/02/2022 23:00

I recognise so many of these...
Beds must always be made and curtains opened before going downstairs in the morning.
Kitchen and downstairs must be relatively tidy before going to bed.
House must be clean and beds changed before going on holiday.
Always walk on the left of someone...not sure why though bit it just feels uncomfortable if I am on the right.
Always sit with your back against the wall facing out in a cafe or restaurant.
Always have a glass of water with dinner (as well as wine of course).
Always brew tea before adding the milk. (Unlike DH who puts the milk in straight after adding the boiling water! ).

grapewine · 11/02/2022 23:08

Never sit with your back to the door.

I calculate shopping in my head when in the shop so I know I won't be caught out at the till.

Iamtheweedonkey · 11/02/2022 23:16

I pretty much always reverse park, hate driving in not a space, plus it's a pita, when leaving. Towels have t ok be hung on rail, loo roll has to be placed away from the wall. Clothes hung bottoms from tops and tops from bottom. No TV in the new morning. Fan light open every night, no matter how cold.

KitKattaktik · 11/02/2022 23:39

Deal with post/deliveries immediately and dispose of packaging immediately so stuff doesn't accumulate.

Never go to bed on an argument.

LadyLolaRuben · 11/02/2022 23:45

Always put make up on left eye first

Topseyt · 12/02/2022 00:23

When I am hanging out the laundry socks must be hung in their exact pairs. It drives me round the bend if an odd number got into the wash in the first place and I then can't stick to that.

HumbugWhale · 12/02/2022 09:09

Coffee is a mid-morning drink that can only be consumed between 10.30 and 11.30. It tastes weird at any other time, especially in the afternoon when nly tea is acceptable. Biscuits can be eaten with mid morning coffee or mid afternoon tea but not at any other time.

Rememberallball · 12/02/2022 14:58

Tv and radio volumes should go up in increments of 6 (though, more recently thanks to a louder tv, they can go up in 3’s) I also count in 6’s and have no idea why, just always have!!

Triptinratbat · 20/02/2022 18:46
@Triptinratbat a T shirt (wear it on your top half) you peg it on upside down at the hem
Trousers/skirts (your lower half) you peg it on at the waist line, so peg marks don't show
I think Hmm Grin
@MandyCarter thanks a lot. Makes complete sense now 😁

guestusername · 20/02/2022 19:40
 • always reverse park
 • washing on the line must always have matching colour pegs on each item of clothing. Tops pegged at the bottom and trousers at the top
 • socks get dried in their pairs
 • when drying socks/pants indoors they must all be facing the same way
 • tea gets 5 stirs round the mug, coffee ten stirs
 • washing up plates and pans must be done and put on the drainer in size order
 • on office days I have to leave the house at a very specific time. Even two minutes later throws the rest of the day!
 • if using the bus I can’t sit by the window, I have to have an aisle seat

Oh dear, I’ve got tons more! I’d be here all night 😂

And, when eating a sandwich, eat the bottom of the bread before the top.

Please explain this , I am baffled !

I dont drive but my DH always looked for 'drive through' parking spots where he could , even though he was good at parking he just preferred them.

I always sort my lunch for work out the evening before and set up the coffee pot so its ready to just turn on .
Cook at least two different meals on a sunday so I can just reheat them during the week when I dont want to cook .
