Today I realised that I always try and reverse into a parking space when ever I can - makes things easier for later (plus you usually have better control in reverse imho)

Also taught 11yoDS how to wrap a present for his mate and said how I believe a gift without a bow is a little bit underdressed.

Any others I may have missed?

Leave the house at least once every day.
Open the windows for at least 30 minutes every morning.
Tidy toys up before sitting down for the evening (I’m pretty untidy but can’t stand seeing toys all over the floor once LO is in bed).

GreenCareBear · 11/02/2022 19:23

Never eat more than one packet of crisps in one day. Makes no sense really as a family bag would have way more crisps in them than an individual bag so a couple of handfuls of those is probably more but that’s ok somehow 😂

Sandwiches should always be cut before eating them, DH finds they very amusing!

DH also reverse parks everywhere and it drives me mad as we have a baby so I need to get the pram out!

HorsesHoundsandHills · 11/02/2022 19:27

All curtains must be open and beds turned down before I leave the house on a morning (even if it makes me late! Blush).

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 11/02/2022 19:33

@SynchroSwimmer

Always reverse into parking spaces - since reading security advice books for lone females staying safe in the 1980’s.
  • so always have a means of escape by driving straight forwards.
  • also reversing against a bank of earth/fence/obstacle has thwarted an actual theft attempt from the rear of the vehicle
  • always have car ignition key in hand and ready to go for a speedy exit - esp in dark or strange areas.
I'm willing to take the risk of being abducted from Tesco to avoid the complicated juggle of getting my shopping in to the car via a side door Grin

I can't eat my lunch before 1pm, stems from having a job with a fixed break some years ago

Koalaslippers · 11/02/2022 19:35

Pegs on clothing must be the same colour.

Dust the living room clockwise and clean the kitchen anticlockwise.

mummykel16 · 11/02/2022 19:36

No second chances

Frankola · 11/02/2022 19:37

New bedding goes on on Sunday. Starts the week off right. Don't ask me why it just does!

DoubleChinWoes2 · 11/02/2022 19:39

I always own up to my farts. Then I don't get blamed for other people's.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 11/02/2022 19:49

I always lead with my left foot going up or down stairs.
I always feed girl cat first as boy cat eats faster and would end up having half of hers too.

FudgeSundae · 11/02/2022 19:51

@Pearlywunzel

And, when eating a sandwich, eat the bottom of the bread before the top.
WHAT.
AnotherMansCause · 11/02/2022 19:52

Never eat from a dark blue or black plate or bowl.
I am another who will only use a teaspoon for cereal, dessert etc.
Always tell the truth. Even (TBH especially) if you've screwed something up. You will never have any problem getting people to believe what you say if you're known for being honest.

AnotherMansCause · 11/02/2022 19:55

Pegs on clothing must be the same colour.

I do this too! It drives DH absolutely bananas! Grin

I was taught that reversing one on an advanced driving training evening by an advanced pursuit driver policeman. Its not unimportant, its sensible.

my rule is use things love people (and I include animals in people)

Triptinratbat · 11/02/2022 19:57

@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey

If you wear it in the top then peg it at the bottom. If you wear it at the bottom then peg it at the top.
@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey

What does that mean ? Not born and brought up in this country so I am stumped.

Frenchfancy · 11/02/2022 19:58

Never eat at a restaurant that has photos of the food, or that serves food on a slate instead of a plate.

Mydogmylife · 11/02/2022 19:59

@Marmite27

DH reverses into every parking space and it drives me mad. The amount of times I have to squeeze between two parked cars lugging shopping bags because the boot is the wrong way out.

And don’t get me started about needing to get in the boot at the local nature reserve when he’s reversed it in tight up against a hedge or as last week on the biggest muddiest puddle he could find. I left him to sort both toddlers out with their wellies that were in the boot and laughed when he moaned about getting his feet wet. We’ll park with the boot not in a fucking puddle then dick head.

Agree 100 %
Mydogmylife · 11/02/2022 20:05

@FindmeuptheFarawaytree

Volume must end in 0 or 5.

Everything must be turned off before I leave the house except the fridge-freezer or it will burn the house down.

I will only eat cereal or dessert with a teaspoon.

Yes to the volume thing - I thought I was the only one that did this and DH thinks I'm really weird
Theblackdogagain · 11/02/2022 20:08

I reverse into spaces as I find it easier and I like a quick getaway. My rules are no more than 2 biscuits a day, 1 fizzy drink a day and 1 bag of crisps. I'm still bigger then I would like to be though.

MandyCarter · 11/02/2022 20:08

@Triptinratbat a T shirt (wear it on your top half) you peg it on upside down at the hem
Trousers/skirts (your lower half) you peg it on at the waist line, so peg marks don't show
I think Hmm Grin

EstoyCansada · 11/02/2022 20:08

TV volume must be in multiples of 5.

Ned to 'reset' the house into a tidy condition before going to bed.

Nothing aside from the kettle and toaster can live on my kitchen worktops.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/02/2022 20:08

Reversing into a parking space is safer for pedestrians when you leave, particularly children who tend to be harder to see.

I eat Smarties (or any coloured food/sweets) in pairs with the same colour together and in a particular order (brown, blue, green, purple, pink, red, yellow, orange). If there is an odd number of any colour then it gets eaten by itself. Nuts are in the order brazils, hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans and almonds, although I'm now quite reactive to some of them all year round (used to be only during birch pollen season) so I tend to just eat brazils and/or almonds.

If I'm stressed then light switches have to be the 'right' way (open at the top when light is on). Where there are two or three switches for the same light then I will walk the length of the room if using the nearest switch would be 'wrong'.

Pascha · 11/02/2022 20:18

@Koalaslippers

Pegs on clothing must be the same colour.

Dust the living room clockwise and clean the kitchen anticlockwise.

Because this crops up so often on mumsnet, Iakr a point of never matching my pegs. In fact, I go out of my way to mix them up completely, wooden and plastic too and no colour is next to another of the same colour anywhere along the line Smile
TDCtomorrow · 11/02/2022 20:24

@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey

If you wear it in the top then peg it at the bottom. If you wear it at the bottom then peg it at the top.
I've told my DH this he thought I was making it up. I knew it was a real thing
MiddleOfThePack · 11/02/2022 20:28

" All curtains must be open and beds turned down"

While wfh, DH works in study off the bedroom and I'm downstairs. I start work before he does, so he's still in bed when I go down. Curtains are often closed all day - when I go upstairs later in the day, I can't stand it if the curtains are still closed. Makes me think someone's died.

As for turning the beds down, I always flap the duvet and put it straight over the bed so it looks inviting when it's bedtime.

MiddleOfThePack · 11/02/2022 20:32

"If you wear it in the top then peg it at the bottom.
If you wear it at the bottom then peg it at the top."

Good heavens above that's so wrong. Tops get pegged at the top as the seams are stronger and less likely to 'bag', bottoms get pegged at the bottom so the weight of the waistband hangs the legs straight. (apart from skirts, where pegs are on waistband so the skirt doesn't 'bag'.)

It's obviously the right way round. So there.
