Today I realised that I always try and reverse into a parking space when ever I can - makes things easier for later (plus you usually have better control in reverse imho)

Also taught 11yoDS how to wrap a present for his mate and said how I believe a gift without a bow is a little bit underdressed.

Any others I may have missed?

I can only go up to bed if the time ends in a 0.

Cuddle from DH before going to sleep.

Friday night is wind down night: bath, wine and freshly cleaned pjs.

The mugs go on the shelves in a certain order.

BuddhaForMary · 11/02/2022 20:35

Everything gets pegged upside down on my line.

MrsMariaReynolds · 11/02/2022 20:40

If I'm at the supermarket and picking items off a shelf, I never take the one right in front--especially if it's chilled.

HumbugWhale · 11/02/2022 20:40

Only having the volume on an even number. A number ending in 5 is just about acceptable.

Davros · 11/02/2022 20:42

Park forwards with the boot accessible
Strawberry jam is only for afternoons
Cake and biscuits are for afternoons
Chocolate is for evenings

Cheerfulcharlie · 11/02/2022 20:47

I always put the right shoe on first.

FabriqueBelgique · 11/02/2022 20:48

When you leave a public place, turn around and look back at where you were sitting to make sure you didn’t leave anything behind!

I gave myself this rule after leaving my purse on the bus seat aged 16. It’s like muscle memory now.

OldTinHat · 11/02/2022 20:49

@linmanuel not reversing into a parking space is a fail in the IAM test. You should always reverse in so you're absolutely right!

ButtockUp · 11/02/2022 20:50

I never reverse into a parking space. It holds other drivers up ( really infuriates me as it usually takes a couple of attempts for them to do this) and it usually means that it's tricky to get your bags in as there's often not enough space .

As an added note. People who reverse into spaces seem to want to bag the first available space as they don't want to hunt around for a further space which just adds to the tailback.

hiredandsqueak · 11/02/2022 20:58

Always go to bed leaving the downstairs tidy, seems to make the mornings run much smoother then.

NorthernTights · 11/02/2022 21:01

Peanuts must always be eaten thus; tiny bits first, then any broken pieces, then halves without the joiny bit on, then halves with the joiny bit, then finally any glorious whole ones.

alongtimeagoandfaraway · 11/02/2022 21:07

I eat my breakfast with a dessert spoon, soup with a soup spoon and yoghurt with a tea spoon.

I have thick mugs for coffee but can only drink tea from bone china mugs. A mug must feel right or I won’t drink from it.

I pack bags at the supermarket with hard dry stuff first, then lighter stuff like crisps, then baked goods, then all the chilled and frozen stuff and fruit and veg last. There is logic there as the checkout person takes longer to weight the fruit and veg so it gives me a chance to catch up on the packing.
My husband doesn’t, he just puts anything in any bag.

Thank you Humbug! But 5 is absolutely not acceptable.

Mugs should be stored upright in the cupboard not upside down (even though my shelves are perfectly clean it just feels wrong).

@mostlylovinglife

After reading somewhere that if a toilet lid is not closed, the contents will be airborne and land on toothbrushes; the lid must always go down.
This is mine too. The only one I can think of.
Hoppinggreen · 11/02/2022 21:18

Volume/thermostat and anything similar must be 0 or 5
No alcohol before 6 unless on holiday and then not before 12
No TV before 6 during the week
I have to leave the house at 0, 15, 30 or 45
Different cups for tea and coffee
TV off if you leave the room for longer than 5 or 10 minutes
Kindle upstairs - phone and iPad downstairs
Nobody can put something on my plate
White bread for toast and whole meal for sandwiches
No sliced bread with soup

I’m sure there are plenty more

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 11/02/2022 21:21

Yes to reverse parking.
Also if adults go to the cinema it is the law that they must eat ice cream. If you are taking children it's ok to take cheap shite in.
Also, the microwave must be stopped at exactly zero seconds

dairyfarmerswife · 11/02/2022 21:22

I tend to either reverse into a parking space, which always feels easier in a tight car park, or if there's a chance, drive straight through so I can drive out forwards. My Dad always said you should drive in so that if someone hit your car they didn't hit the front but on balance I think reversing out is riskier.

I have a particular favourite spoon for breakfast, there's only two of that type in our cutlery drawer. DD likes it/them too so we have to try and beat DH & Ds who actually don't care.

No butter on a bacon sandwich, DH thinks this is weird.

FoamBurst · 11/02/2022 21:23

Beds must be made before leaving the house. Even if running late.

Washing on airer a specific way.

When hanging washing on the line. And it's say a light color load, pinks, blue, greys I gather them in each color then go shade order so slightly darker pink, dusky, lighter, then shades of blue then grey. Makes zero difference to how it dries!

Immaculate house, skirting, windows etc b4 all special occasions. And tbh my house is mostly always clean.

When changing dds bunkbed. Even if Dsd hasn't been I have to change both top and bottom. So they match.

Thats just a few!

FoamBurst · 11/02/2022 21:25

I can only eat a cold dessert, yoghurt, ice cream etc with one of the ikea kids plastic spoons. But a hot dessert apple pie or whatever a metal spoon.
But a cold bowl of cereal would be metal.!

butterflyfox · 11/02/2022 21:27

I inherited “no milk bottles on the table” from my mother. So we always have milk in a jug that matches the pretty breakfast china. It makes me happy -a little oasis of elegant calm before we descend into the chaos of the rest of our day

When I'm sorting washing I always do it in the same order: start with DC stuff, underwear first put into piles for each person, then socks, then bottoms then tops. Then I will move on to mine an DP's if i pick up one of my things first, i have to carry on doing mine until only DP's stuff is left. I get irked if i find a rouge pair of DC pants if i've finished their piles!

RainbowConnection1 · 11/02/2022 21:38

Even though I don't officially start work until 8:30am I absolutely must be in work at 8:00am. I feel all wrong footed for the rest of the day if I'm not.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 11/02/2022 21:39

@MiddleOfThePack

"If you wear it in the top then peg it at the bottom. If you wear it at the bottom then peg it at the top."

Good heavens above that's so wrong. Tops get pegged at the top as the seams are stronger and less likely to 'bag', bottoms get pegged at the bottom so the weight of the waistband hangs the legs straight. (apart from skirts, where pegs are on waistband so the skirt doesn't 'bag'.)

It's obviously the right way round. So there.

No way! Horrible peg marks on shoulders and ankles.
