Fill me full of your favourite facts. The more obscure, the better!

My favourite all time fact is that two halves of a supermarket sandwich are never from the same sandwich and are each another half of another pair. Unbelievable.

I met a grown man who didn't know peanuts grew underground recently too, which pleased me.

Enlighten me further!

Ayurvedic practitioners will sometimes prescribe eating beef for some time, even though it’s a mainly plant based treatment modality.

Pineapples don’t grow on trees. They grow in fields.

What's your favourite fact?

@QueenFool

This is probably not that interesting, but I was surprised when I first heard.

Embryonic kidneys begin development in the pelvis and move to the lumbar/thoracic region in the third trimester.

And when a kidney is transplanted, the original kidneys are left in place where possible and the new kidney is placed in the pelvic region. Easier to connect to blood vessels and the bladder down there I suppose!

Bizarrely, I only found this out when I was getting my kidney transplant!

I assumed they'd take the poorly functioning ones out, but it's an additional unnecessary surgery. So the nice fat healthy new one is at the front on the right, and the two shrivelled old ones are still sitting there at the back not doing anything.

That pain you get in your mouth when eating a pineapple is because the pineapple is also trying to eat you.

Beatrix Potter was a scientist who studied fungi and submitted a research paper to the Linnean Society. It tok them until 1997 to issue a posthumous apology to her for the gender discrimination which prevented them treating her research with the recognition it deserved.

She used her earnings from books and illustrations to buy up farms to give to the National Trust to preserve the Lake District, was a Herdwick sheep farmer and was a huge benefactor for the Nurses' Trust.
