I'm easily irritated- help!

I'm generally a private person and keep things to myself. No reason why - I just don't tend to tell people things. But why do I get so massively irritated when people comment things like "oh Doreen saw you in sainsburys were you not at work" or "oh I hear you're getting a new carpet" or "I hear one of the kids had difficult homework". I find it really hard to answer nicely. I just want to scream "will you mind your own f'ing business".

It's often my MIL that is telling people my business but not always.

Does anyone else feel like this or just me?

Yes, I agree, and I'd say the quick answer to your problem is 'stop telling your MiL anything'.

Just smile and nod.

I'm just like this, and that is why I could never live in the same area as my IL's or my DM.

Thanks I'm pleased it's not just me. I keep thinking I've got nothing to hide so I should stop being so irritated by trivial chit chat but I can't help it!

I find this as well, especially with comments like "were you not at work".

I work funny hours and I particularly dislike it when neighbours seem shocked and say "why aren't you at work?"

I find everyday questions quite nosey but my mum thinks I am being strange.
