This is not 540 calories is it?

I’ve started a diet and as I’m busy this week have used a local food prep place. They’ve sent me this frittata for lunch and labelled it 540 calories. Photo taken is on on a side plate. Ingredients are eggs, green peppers, milk, Parmesan and cheddar. I’ve calorie counted for years so I have a pretty good idea about calories and this looks 250- 300 at the most to me

It's basically a solid lump of cheese held together by some egg. 540 cal is about right.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/02/2022 12:02

Eggs.. 80 cal each
Cheese... 100cal per 25g.

So depends how much eggs and cheese!

Undertheoldlindentree · 08/02/2022 12:02

Doesn't it depend very much depend on how much cheddar and parmesan is hidden in there?. Surely the only way to know is to ring them and ask how they've calculated the calories?

Doesn't look appetising at all, wouldnt you be better making your own, tastier version and know exactly how many cals are in it?

Theredjellybean · 08/02/2022 12:03

Cheese eggs... Fried in oil
And fritta has potato in it
Yep 540 sounds about right.

Maybe your yrs of calories counting have not been that accurate

edwinbear · 08/02/2022 12:03

I'd say 540 too given the cheese. 40g of grated cheddar is about 180 cals so add the parmesan, egg and milk, plus the oil to cook it in, I'd think that was about right.

Traumdeuter · 08/02/2022 12:05

Calories aside, I’d be a bit ashamed to charge someone for that. Have you used this food prep place before?

Chasingsquirrels · 08/02/2022 12:06

I calorie-costed my own at about 500 calories a portion, and that was without cheese.

You don't have potato on your list, but the picture looks like it does?

Notwithittoday · 08/02/2022 12:06

It seems almost solidly egg and only cheese on the top. I would say there’s two eggs. I suppose it could be the oil they’ve done it in but it seems very dry. I don’t really want to eat it tbh

OP posts:
Notwithittoday · 08/02/2022 12:07

@Chasingsquirrels it’s a low carb place so no potato.

That’s a depressing looking meal for 540 calories. My Caffè Nero macaroni cheese is only 460.

I’m also surprised it’s that much. Hopefully it at least tastes nice.

WeeFae · 08/02/2022 12:09

Hope you didnt pay much for it!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 08/02/2022 12:09

Looks rank! If it is 540 cals it doesn't feel like a good use of cals.

Notwithittoday · 08/02/2022 12:11

That looks solid egg from the side. It’s tiny! Maybe I’m not as good at calorie counting as I thought. I’ll have to get a bag of salad out 😂

It is depressing isn’t it?! Feel like I have to eat it now because I paid for it. Bah!

Goodness me, that looks like a sad piece of (potatoless) frittata. I hope you didn't pay too much for it, but I'm expecting you parted with around a fiver for the joy of a fairly high calorie piece of dry protein.

Are you supposed to microwave it?

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 08/02/2022 12:17

Send it back OP.

Go to a shop and get something nice to eat!

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 08/02/2022 12:18

Yes, that needs a tomato / pepper salad or spinach or something. Anything.

It was £95 for a week of breakfast, lunch and tea do I think that’s about 4.50 per ‘meal’. Some of the meals are better than others. I def think it’s a cheek to send this out with nothing else not even a few side veg pieces.
OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 08/02/2022 12:20

What brief are they fulfilling?

I would definitely complain about that “meal”.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 08/02/2022 12:23

Oh dear, yes it probably is about right calorie wise but depressing when you think that you could make a hearty veg omelette for half the calories that would probably be nicer.

2 medium eggs - 136 cals
Peppers
Onions
Chilli
Mushrooms
All the above would be less than 100 cals

Frylight 1 cal spray oil

You could add some wafer thin chicken or ham (3 slices 27 cals) or a small amount of cheese.

ApricotPeony · 08/02/2022 12:24

I think it looks like it would be quite tasty/filling/nutritious if you put salad with it

Comefromaway · 08/02/2022 12:31

There re usually a lot of eggs in frittata.

Notwithittoday · 08/02/2022 12:34

Weirdly they’ve also sent me a three cheese ‘quiche’ that looks very similar and labelled that 358 cals.

OP posts:
dworky · 08/02/2022 12:36

Definitely nearer 500 than 300 calories.
