..by an irate woman . Why was she irate ? Because apparently I was using her favourite machines in a practically empty gym.Hmm As I there are 4 of every machine and only me, her and her DH in there.
Her poor husband kept coming over ( Marjorie, just use a different treadmill / bike/ crosstrainer !)
I actually got the giggles in the end , the lovely gym owner apologised on my way out and marched over to chat to Marjorie and her poor embarrassed DH Grin
Anyone else got any tales of gym batshittedness?

How bizarre!

Reminds me of a woman I used to see yelling at cars when she crossed the road in front of them and they just slowed down long enough to let her pass rather than coming to a crashing halt. Her poor dh just walked behind her smiling apologetically. One day a driver pulled over his car, got out and yelled back. I had to go and speak to him and tell him that I see her everyday and she does it to everyone, so he backed down 😬. Definitely some mh issues at play with the woman I used to see.
@emmathedilemma why did you leave your stuff in the cubicle when you went for a shower? At my old gym that is extremely rude and your stuff would be dumped elsewhere.
because the changing rooms were empty when I went in and I it's a faff putting everything back in a locker and taking it out again when you're dripping wet!
At least I don't do while I'm in the gym or swimming like some people do!

Teaforme123 · 08/02/2022 13:47

She sounds just like the annoying child who kept following my then 2 yo around the park and crying because he wanted to be on whatever DC was currently on!

Please go to aqua aerobics ask where she normally stands and get there early.🤣

@Cas112 - only in some things, but yeah Grin No point in sweating the small stuff.

TheRealHousewife · 08/02/2022 14:03

Swimming can be a bit like this. When I used to go regularly there were others who were equally regular but would bulldoze their way through anyone in ‘their’ lane 👿. They thought they ‘owned’ lanes and just ignored everyone else who were using them to the point there were regular collisions. I was forever ducking and diving in an effort to give way to the lane bullies.

PS Go to aquarobics 🙏😬

I didnt " park "myself on anyone's space Errol as you call it upthread. Why would it be HER space? She got in AFTER me, and had the whole of the pool to herself, and two pals (apart from the little space I was in with my wheelchair parked up poolside.) It's a local authority pool supposedly for the whole community with times allocated for disabled people. As part of a community health initiative. Angry
She most certainly wasn't doing lengths as you decided. The other lanes were free. Lengths would be going up and down the pool - not circling me like a shark across the shallow end because I looked "forrin" and "not from round here" That was what her real agenda was imo. But you have made up your own version of events.

I'm sure if I'd been as fit as Nicola Adams, she and her pals would have stayed well clear. Hmm

Anine · 08/02/2022 14:21

There was someone like that at a gym I went to, only her name was Maureen. Every class revolves around the routines she did and didn't like. In spinning she had 'her' bike and control of the air conditioning unit. All the staff fell over themselves to please her and to fawn over her.

Some people just seem to think they rule the world and that it revolves around them!

Sundancerintherain · 08/02/2022 15:23

@Cheeseandlobster it went something like ..
Marj " I need that machine !"
Me, red faced and sweaty doing a 10 incline at 5km " Its in use, I'm on it, they're all identical "
Marj " I'm a longstanding member here, I need THAT machine "
Me, " I'm using it"
Marj " I always use that one"
Me " " Its . In. Use"
Gerald " For gods sake Marjorie just use another treadmill"
Rinse and repeat .
Further enquiries have revealed that Marjorie is known at the health club and wider community as a bit of a bully.
I'm going back tomorrow , similar time, I do hope Marjorie and Gerald are there 😁

@DownWhichOfLate

How odd! I was once at the gym when a very sweet very elderly man asked me if I was married and then told me he was rich Grin
Where was this please? Asking for a friend

Haha. What an entitled woman. What made THAT machine so special? Please please go tomorrow at the same time and feedback!

PollyCreo · 08/02/2022 15:58

OP I have a favourite treadmill at the gym - it's perfectly positioned under the fan and has the best view of a busy junction outside so I can run AND observe live road rage to my heart's content 👀😅

I never go full-on Marjorie though, just silently seethe when the best treadmill is being used by teenage girls posing and instagramming HmmGrin

forlornlorna · 08/02/2022 16:09

I have a Marjorie! My youngest is autistic and a bit set in her ways. We got the bus into town this weekend and she asked a young lad if he'd move as she uses that seat. Bless him he actually moved. She likes to do things the same way all the time. We humour her and so do most other people thankfully.

Stellaris22 · 08/02/2022 16:19

I have a favourite treadmill! It's in a great spot and doesn't go into cool down after ten mins like some of the others. It makes me happy when it's free but to insist only I could use it would be beyond weird.

Sundancerintherain · 08/02/2022 16:26

@forlornlorna Marjory has form for demanding asking people to move on a whim. It's not about her actually having a favourite machine , it's about being a bit of a bully.

RoyKentsChestHair · 08/02/2022 16:27

In the summer the air con at my gym was broken, so I asked one of the staff for a fan. I used the treadmill directly in front of it and then someone came in, walked past and angled the fan directly at their treadmill on the way past it. I was AGOG at the cheek of it and just went and moved it back. Cheeky fuckers. Never come between a menopausal woman and her fan.

At the new gym I started at there’s a young guy (20s) who was using the cross trainer wearing his normal clothes, including a leather jacket, cross body man bag and sunglasses Grin

Sundancerintherain · 08/02/2022 16:29

Marj , I have now been told, has form for bullying people out of the local Facebook groups if they dare disagree with her. Hmm

@Sundancerintherain

What a charmer Down 😀

When I told my DH he said she either fancied me or wants to be my friend Grin

Another gym friend has just told me that Marjorie throws a wobbler if anyone stands in " her" place during the aqua aerobics. I am tempted to go next week .......

Marjorie and her sisters attended the Zumba and Salsa classes at my gym too! One of the reasons I stopped going
Sundancerintherain · 08/02/2022 16:41

@Jaxhog that's awful. The one think I cannot abide is a bully. Angry

Latara · 08/02/2022 18:09

@EchoNan that nasty woman at the pool sounds like a racist disablist bully.

That kind of racist behaviour has happened to my family and friends and colleagues.
It happens because these unpleasant individuals are allowed to get away with it by their own friends and family.

I bet she was clever enough not to use any actual racist words though.. she could be banned and arrested for that.

Ah, I read your first post through the lens of my own experience. For the further details, she was way, way out of line. Sorry. Thanks
DownWhichOfLate · 08/02/2022 19:51

@LoopyDream - Grin. I’m afraid your friend may be too late. It was over a decade ago so I fear his offer may have been taken by someone else or he is no longer a gym member… How different my life could have been.

Sundancerintherain · 09/02/2022 11:25

Crappy update -I went and no sign of Marj and Gerald .

I was at a small outdoor pool with four swim lanes. It was busy. I started to swim in a lane with just one other woman swimming up and down. Her husband was standing by the side watching. He shouted at me that his wife was there first and she wanted to swim backstroke so no room for me. He marched off to tell the lifeguard. The lifeguard told him in no uncertain terms that the pool and the lanes were open to all and his wife would have to share a.lane.. The man and his wife started shouting at me and telling me I wasn't wanted at the pool. They were told to leave.
It was upsetting. They were old and very odd and I felt guilty because he probably had mental health issues. I never saw them at the pool again.
