Keir Starmer chased by protesters with a noose.

Starmer was bundled into a car after a mob of protesters angry about the Savile case swarmed around him, apparently waving a homemade noose and scuffling with police. No doubt the same knuckle draggers who erected a gallows in parliament square just a week after Sir David Amess' murder.
Johnson really has become a mini me trump and has inadvertently or not enthused violent protesters to attack a prominent politician. Hopefully this will backfire against him...

My point is major political figures get heckled. He was taken way by police quickly.

By the way, wasn’t Farage heckled pretty much all the time? I didn’t see people jumping to his defence.

Or was that different because he was UKIP
and most people on here don’t like him?

If grown adults are violent and hostile, that’s down to them. I know people don’t like Boris on here, but seriously I fail to see why he can be blamed for the behaviour of a few idiots.

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

Johnson's too thick to realise that his careless words might have real world consequences because he's a juvenile scumbag. Trying to score cheap points because he lacks the intellect to form a proper argument.
The problem is that he's not stupid at all. He knows exactly what he is doing.
TooBigForMyBoots · 08/02/2022 11:38

PM Johnson lifted shit from conspiracy fuckwits on the internet and threw it at KS in the HoC (so he couldn't be sued). Buoyed by the PM's words, the conspiracy fuckwits came off the internet and into real life to mob an MP.

Of course PM Johnson is responsible for what happened. I wonder what QAnon bollocks theory he'll give credence to next?

Precisely. I don't know why people think he is thick. He is negligent - totally different.

I think a few people are missing the point. It's not about whether or not we like 'Boris'.
The Prime Minister's words are seen as a seal of approval by people like the mob chasing Starmer The Prime Minister is legitimising this behaviour.

@BowerOfBramble

Has anyone listened to the BBC podcast “The Coming Storm”? It’s all about how conspiracy theories about powerful people protecting paedophiles has been used in right wing politics in the US. Isn’t this basically the same thing here? I.e. isn’t Boris - a clever man despite everything - trying to imply KS is part of this conspiracy? If so it’s a lot more scary than weird.
Yes.

In summary:

The Prime Minister deliberately used a far-right conspiracy theory to smear the Leader of the Opposition knowing that there was an unpredictable mob outside parliament which shouted about those paedo conspiracy theories and others. He did this as a way to defend himself over parties held against lockdown rules in Downing Street.

**

At length:

The British Prime Minister (presumably a grown adult who has the sense to behave rationally and take responsibility for himself?) has chosen to repeat in parliament a far-right slur about his political opponent.

The PM did this knowing that for months (years?) outside the Houses of Parliament there have been protestors given to harassing and intimidating politicians and others. These protestors have previously chanted 'paedo' at their victims - along with other tropes of conspiracy theories spread widely on the internet.

One of those provenly false tropes is about Keir Starmer as DPP protecting paedophiles from prosecution. This includes a doctored video of Starmer which has been edited to the point of plain falsity.

Nevertheless Johnson knowingly referenced Savile as a way to defend himself over Downing St parties during lockdown. We know it was a deliberate decision as his close and trusted advisor Munira Mirza has publicly said she warned him against using the reference.

The BBC's Chris Mason reports that No10 is now arguing that it was fine to reference Savile because the PM has been on: "the receiving end for weeks" of allegations about parties he wasn't at..."

This after we have all seen photos of the PM at a lockdown 'work event' which we can all clearly see with our own eyes broke the rules.

So the PM dog-whistled the mob - using his priviliged position in parliament - to protect his backside over something we all know he did.

If you want to defend him then do so. But do so clear-eyed and knowing what company you are in.

The conspiracy theorists were already off the internet. They were in Parliament Square.

Johnson knows that. If it will save his ass HE. DOES. NOT. CARE.

(That's the most generous interpretation of the situation.)

@Clymene

I blame bloody everything on Boris. He's a fucking useless PM, an arrogant lying cowardly arsehole who can't keep his dick in his pants.

And this is entirely his fault.

How have we ended up with a PM who is lower than a snake's belly? He'd throw his own kids under the bus if it saved his skin.

If he could remember where he left them.

I agree he knows exactly what he was doing. However, I don't think he then has sufficient foresight for the follow-through.

Did he think there wouldn't be any backlash? That everybody is his adoring fan? That he wouldn't look even more of a piece of slime to the rest of the population - and his own party?
