Water resistant warm trousers

Any suggestions for a pair of black warm water resistant trousers which aren't too expensive? I volunteer as a Marshall at outdoor sports events so will be out for seven/eight hours. I have thermal leggings I can wear underneath and/or fully waterproof over trousers for the very worst weather, but need something to see me through a typical winter's day.

Try softshell trousers from Amazon. I have a pair for gardening and prefer them to over trousers as they are waterproof but warmer. DH has a pair which are more fleecy lined than mine and says they can be too warm?

Is there any brand you would recommend (or avoid) please?

I bought some of these recently…www.regatta.com/womens-fenton-softshell-walking-trousers-navy/?sv_tax1=google&sv_tax2=shopping&sv_tax3=Smart+Shopping+-+Trousers&sv_tax4=518266&sv_campaign_id=8064434137&gclid=CjwKCAiAo4OQBhBBEiwA5KWu_17sdm-Ab-UMnsbYaz7eVyZJTWXywU8BttL9OUxG3JOG8_gN14H0yxoCKBgQAvD_BwE. Like them so much I bought another pair in black 😃

I can never find outdoor trousers that actually fit but there’s ones seem to be made for a human female!

Salopettes like skiers wear? Warm and water resistant for all the times they fall over?!

I'm a farmer and out in all weathers and wear either berghaus or Kiawaka or betacraft.

The Kiawaka ones are probably the warmest but don't come in black (they are blue/purple).

If you look up supplies for dairy farmers brands like flexothane, drytek, betacraft and monsoon will definitely keep you dry and you can get a pair of thermal/ fleece lined leggings to wear underneath to keep you warm.

@ErrolTheDragon

The ones I bought don't seem to be available still but they look like these ones (the pink stitching looks the same but I'm not sure mine have back pockets)

I have some from Dare 2 B and some from Columbia - both budget walking/ hiking brands and both good. I wear heattech leggings underneath if its cold. I also have a second hand Fjallraven pair from vinted which are great and cost similar to the other pairs new. They look a bit nicer but the functionality is no different.

Another vote for the ones from Amazon. I’ve worn them in Finland in the winter ( with two layers of thermals underneath ) and they were excellent. As well as in the UK in our usual winter conditions.

MaggieFS · 07/02/2022 22:22

There are loads on Amazon! @TwinkleToesStrikesAgain @M0RVEN I don't suppose you could link the ones you bought please?

I have a few pairs of these

www.craghoppers.com/aysgarth-trousers-black/

Lightweight and fully waterproof with a slightly fleecy lining. They feel like normal trousers though, so you don't get the plasticy swishing when you walk. Very comfy and I've been out for hours in howling weather and come back bone dry.

I wear a size up to my normal size. I got one pair direct from Craghoppers and a second pair on eBay.

Sorry I can’t find the exact ones I bought, it’s a few years ago now. But they are soft shell , with a button fly and a striped webbing belt and come in lots of different colours. Cost about £30 ish .

They come in mens as well which I bought for my sons and in fact I can’t see much any difference between the mens and womens styles.

These are great. I spend a lot of time sitting exposed to the elements while wildlife watching and they keep me warm.
