Somewhere to stop along the M1 south?

We're travelling from Leicestershire (J20) to Heathrow this week, the evening before a flight.

Can anyone recommend anywhere along that stretch of motorway that would be good to stop at please? Not fast food and not a huge detour. A nice, not too fancy pub or something would be great.

I think our midpoint would be around Newport Pagnell but happy to consider anywhere really.

If you come off at junction 14 at Milton Keynes there’s a lovely pub in MK village called The Swan. It’s only 5-10 mins from the motorway.

Or for something cheap and cheerful The Red House in Newport Pagnell is a chain/carvery type pub, or lots of Indian/Turkish restaurants etc in Newport itself. The services at NP are pretty dire so wouldn’t bother going there if you have time to detour into the town itself

To be fair it’s fine, but I’m always flabbergasted that the bill is so expensive - we used to go there for a cheap meal when they had the £6.99 specials but now everything is at least double that and still the same quality.

@RoyKentsChestHair I thought that about Harvester recently. £17.99 for a meal! I don't remember paying anything like that before.

Don't go Toddington services. Quite a few car break ins and cars stolen

A bit further north of your halfway point but there’s a Beefeater just off the M1 at Northampton. Few minutes from the motorway. Called The Turnpike, always stop there over services.

Got excited when I saw this thread as Tibshelf is my all time favorite services. No use to you though, sadly .
