Hi bargain hunters, I need your help!

All my dc have May birthdays,
Dd1 will be 15
Ds1 will be 10
Dd2 will be 2.

Dp has lost his job and with rising energy costs I need a way to celebrate with as many bargains as possible and I know no one better than you guys!

I have vinted and eBay but not market place.

Looking for bargains so please help me!!!

Dd1 - likes crystals, band t shirts and old bibles..

Ds - Pokemon and space obsessed! Some SEN so acts a lot younger, still likes his cuddlies etc

Dd2 - Mickey Mouse obsessed! Also enjoys toy garage at playgroup which could be good as have lots of cars from when ds was younger.

Please help wise mumsnetters! Smile

Are you looking for brand new or 2nd hand ok? I've been getting some bargains on vinted, toys included!

Glenthebattleostrich · 07/02/2022 08:57

Hi, not sure I can help with bargains but Disney store had Christmas Mickey's marked down recently, worth having a look and remember to do everything through a cashback site.

captainjacksparrow · 07/02/2022 08:58

Second hand is fine, I’m not fussy as long as condition is good.

Great bargains on vinted but postage can be really high

I've not paid more than £1.69 for postage recently as I've had it sent to local pick up point rather than the delivery to home which is more expensive!

RainbowPhilosophy · 07/02/2022 09:17

@captainjacksparrow do you have Facebook? If so try searching for the group Preloved to Reloved for Postage UK. You can ask for things you're looking for and everything is free for the cost of postage/PayPal fees (so basically you just cover the cost to get it to you).

LowlyTheWorm · 07/02/2022 09:19

This set is on offer today for ds1?

I need the Xmas bargain hunters please
captainjacksparrow · 07/02/2022 09:22

Thanks all,

Don’t have Facebook for various reasons so that option is out.

Do have some charity shops nearby but typically because I want something I can’t find anything Grin

TKMaxx do fab large, illustrated reference books, see Secrets in the Skies for example. There are some lovely books for your younger DD too, again to split the postage cost across a couple of presents (click and collect is avail. if you have a local store).

Jurassic Jim on Facebook sells good value crystals and fossils. The potage is not cheap however, but you could potentially get crystals / jewellery for your DD and cool fossils for your DS at the same time.

This pink backback from Accessorize is good value at £10.50.

Check your Amazon account if you have one, I had a £5 off £15 code recently. There are pretty regular offers there, you need to sign in and then search on Google Amazon offers and it should take you to your own page showing the offers avail. for you.

WHSmith are doing a decent sale as well at the moment. Make sure you're sorting the sale results from low > high so that you can see the cheapest things first. Who doesn't love gel pens for example?

MissMinutes24 · 07/02/2022 10:45

Check out Olio as well for 2nd hand stuff

captainjacksparrow · 07/02/2022 10:48

Thanks guys, I knew you wouldn’t let me down!

I don’t suppose anyone knows what is meant by “cool crystals” do they? I can only name about 3 Blush

Typo have disney water bottles here, as well as some stuff for teens.

BigGreen · 07/02/2022 10:55

If you follow Jurassic Jim on Facebook he posts what he has in stock and then you reply to say you want to buy it. Then he puts it aside for you until the end of the month when you pay and ship for what you've chosen. So you just need to look at the pictures to see what looks 'cool' Grin.

Ok so we’ll be in for more restrained Xmas too this year thanks to rising costs and the fact my credit card has been filling the gap and needs to gradually reduced. My youngest is 14 and for the last 10 years massively into fossils/ crystals etc big hits have been geode breaking sets approx £10 and you break them open yourself some quite small but some big impressive ones in his set he still loves them, I’ve found ones in charity shops quite cheap couple of quid, avoid gift shops very over priced. I used natural history museum shop and Amazon, lots of very cheap but good stuff if you’re happy to sift through all the pages. This year I’ve also gone for imitation Lego, have bought the odd small set and it’s been fine. I’ve bought mine sets that are approx 10-15 pounds and normally I’d be paying 50/60 for the equivalent. Some is clearly not great but again if you hunt around the nano blocks are very competitive quality wise. I’ve seen Xmas, Pokémon and all kinds of stuff. We quite often get games/dvds off eBay occasionally cex. Most importantly get stuff through the year and then keep a bit back for that thing they inevitably ask for in November/December. Charity shops can be great or awful but if you’re out somewhere just pop in and have a look you never know what you’ll come across x

Skinnydog · 07/02/2022 11:04

Rock tumblers always looked good but not bought one
Mine loved the ones where you chip them out of a giant block as well
The works are good for odd bits and to maxx for unusual bits

captainjacksparrow · 07/02/2022 11:28

Not on Facebook so Jurassic Jim is out.

Signed up to Olio so thanks for heads up on there. If nothing else will help with declutter!

Try AliExpress for crystals. Literally type in cool crystals or zodiac and stuff like that. They do good stickers too so try typing in positive quote stickers

LoopyDream · 07/02/2022 12:38

Crystal candles are so cool. A tenner in tk maxx so you’ve got a price to try to beat.

4inthishouse · 07/02/2022 17:05

Hi I’ve sent you a pm
But just to mention as well I ordered crystals from Ali express for dd2 for Xmas and they were really well received and were very cheap

devuskums · 07/02/2022 17:07

Primarni had loads of Disney, especially mickey stuff in there today for all ages, including baby stuff

captainjacksparrow · 07/02/2022 17:20

Sounds like a trip to primarni is needed then! Also a chance to check the charity shops again.

Got some books on crystals and tarot for my niece (15) from the works for Christmas. Reasonably priced.
Asda has a Mickey Mouse bed sheet, fleece blanket and cushion at £7 each.
