Toddlers in church

BrambleRoses · 06/02/2022 08:00

Once a month the church has a session for all ages. Last time I went, my 13 month old just trundled around the church quite happily. No one seemed to mind. I just worry it’s really boring for him. Or will he just enjoy being somewhere new?

I honestly don’t think at 13 months he will have an opinion as to whether it’s boring or not.toddlers love to run around and explore and that’s what he’s doing. If you enjoy going - keep going :-)

I agree, I think he'll enjoy having somewhere new to explore. I'm not sure they really get bored at this age. My toddler loves all the attention she gets after church (there are other children but she's the youngest at the moment) as well!

Church is pretty boring for all children isn’t it? I think it’s just something they have to learn to tolerate if parents insist on them going.

busyeatingbiscuits clearly doesn't know much about different types of churches. It sounds like a family friendly all age church so he'll love exploring and all the hidey holes and if there's other kids playing with friends and getting fussed over by the older congregation. If he had to sit still and quiet then that would be boring, but it doesn't sound like that kind of church so just relax and enjoy.
Thing I loved most about taking young children to church is that everyone keeps an eye on them so you actually can relax and drink a whole cup of tea after the service.

He will be fine.

And no, @busyeatingbiscuits but perhaps you have very limited experience. Loads of churches have great kids stuff going on.

No, the right church shouldn't be. Some cater really well to children and young people and they look forward to going. Sadly it's not always the case so a fair few do put adult expectations on quite young children...which is a shame!

Baby will let you know if he's bored and I doubt he will be. They don't need toys all the time, he'll love looking at other people and the surroundings.

Jk987 · 06/02/2022 08:20

Sorry I meant he WILL be fine!

We have an area where we move the chairs and put toys out for the toddlers, no one minds if they make a noise or walk around.

Camomila · 06/02/2022 09:39

I think he'll enjoy having a new place to walk around and new faces to see.

I always quite liked church as a DC - I liked singing all the hymns.

Depends what kind of church you go to. Ours has playdoh, lego, craft activities and worship aimed at all ages.
