Does anyone else have local cats they chat to? Or is it a me thing? 🤔

I was telling Mr NotHomeless earlier (( nicknamed by the dc and I because he's old and very scruffy but not homeless)) we have a long standing relationship, I have a photo somewhere of ds with him when he was a toddler and he's 21 now. He always runs over and blocks our path demanding some attention and a chat. I get quite worried if I don't see him for a while.

So he's the main one.

Then there's fat ginge. Huge, ginger and loves and ear tickle.

And ' the brick' so called because he sits in the middle of the pavement tapping his paws and refusing to move.

Anyone else?

We have Little Grey Cat. She lives on our route to school and keeps an eye out for passers-by from a little hollow under the hedge. She always comes out for a stroke, and if I stop to pay her attention she will then follow me for a house or two, overtaking me and getting under my feet until I stop and stroke her again. When I wear sandals in summer she licks my bare toes!

LGC is so sweet. Adult, but very small, with coarse, fuzzy fur and a tail like a furry rat's tail. And her purr is croaky! Such a cutie pie.

Just remembered angrycat.

This isn't strictly my catfriend, it's dps and our sons, but I find myself keeping an eye out for him.

It's called angry cat because it's so vicious its owner has to run out and warn people when he sees them approach him to stroke him when he's sat on the chair that it never leaves...... Weird thing is it's never gone for dp or ds. Ds has severe learning difficulties and im convinced it's picked up on something...... Everyone else gets and angry flick of the tail and a swipe just for walking past!

Yes!

In fact, despite us having our own cat our garden seems to be the meeting hub for cat social events! There's a lovely big black fluffy cat from next door who my cat has made friends with. And a pretty tabby from up the road who pops by. And a black and white one that tries to storm our house regularly. It seems my cat has made no attempts to mark his territory! There's also two big tubby cats over the road who like to watch all the comings and goings.

Love the daft little creatures and enjoy getting to know them!

Every school day around 3.45 there is a knock at my front window. Two little girls (twins) are standing there and right on queue my two young cats come galloping in and straight in the window to greet them.

They have a little chat, and my two cats chirp and act all lovely.

It's a beautiful thing, the love is real.

IcicleIcicle · 06/02/2022 00:48

It's Cat City round here and yes, I chat to them all Smile There's Batman, a short haired all-black whose head is shaped uncannily like the Bat symbol, Fluffytail, another all-black with short hair everywhere else but a tail like a fox, Tinkerbell, who is mainly white with a few bits of black (including what looks very like a Hitler moustache but we don't mention that), Machete who is a long haired tabby with fabulous Mexican-style whiskers and Socks, a short haired tabby with spectacularly white knee socks. Socks is the most chatty but they all come for a natter, they're friendlier than most of the neighbours actually Grin

Yes. I love the local cats, but I was most disappointed that the pretty fluffy one that I thought was my cats girlfriend, and I’d named Francesca, was in fact a boy cat called Bill.

Sunbird24 · 06/02/2022 01:09

In the two years I’ve been walking to/from my current job I had never seen a cat until last week - I did stop for a chat and was very glad it was friendly, so here is a picture!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/02/2022 01:21

Yes, absolutely. I am quite worried I have not seen Bin Cat since the colder weather, but hope she is just staying by the fireside.

We live five minutes walk from a primary school and lots of parents park in our street. Our cat likes to sit in the window to be admired at pickup time. Since WFH I have been utterly charmed by how many children wave to her every day.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/02/2022 01:23

Here she is, waiting for her fanclub.

I chat to cats everywhere I go, they don't have to be local Smile but of course you can't build proper relationships unless you see them regularly.

Although I had a long conversation with my own cat the other day, before I realised (I didn't have my glasses on) it was not my car but actually a white ASOS plastic returns bag one of my DCs had left on the sofa.

I thought she was quieter than usual.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 06/02/2022 01:36

Not my cat I mean not my car Blush

I don't have my glasses on now either

mjf981 · 06/02/2022 06:59

Oh yes. Theres two fat ginger boys who live a few streets over. The owner has a bench on her verandah, with a cushion for each cat. They're often sat on their respective cushions when I walk past and (only if the windows are closed so the owner doesn't think I'm mad), I ask them how their day is, if they'd had lunch yet etc...

FlapsInTheWind · 06/02/2022 07:05

I have (six dinner) Sid, Tiny (because he has a tiny bit of white on his chest) and Spooky (who has a white patch the shape of a ghost). They are all feral and used to belong to the farm nearby. The farmer died and the family left the place empty so I started to feed all three.
There is a caretaker farmer there now and I am told by a neighbour that he feeds them now. That would explain why they have all gone from stick thin to fat as butter then!

I can't get near them but I am housebound so they bring me massive joy and I have bought a trail cam so I can look at them up close without scaring them. Yes I AM that weirdly obsessed!

FlapsInTheWind · 06/02/2022 07:07

I'm loving the random names they are given by people that don't own them!

ButtonSister · 06/02/2022 07:16

@HelloKeith

Our cat is one of those cats Talked About. There's a footpath down the side of the house next door and he hangs out there. A couple of weeks ago someone called to him on our porch saying "there you are X, haven't seen you in ages" and he did the whole starving cat routine - all caught on the Ring camera. He just had a tag with his name on him for ages so she'd remembered his name from way back.
I love that you haven't named him on here, it's important to protect his internet privacy ,😹😻 I talk to a very friendly cat we call Skinny Cat, and another whose name we know who likes to sleep on the pavement. We have a couple of other cats who come in our garden one of whom I politely see off the premises (i.e. I walk into the garden) because my cat is scared of him and I don't want him taking over her territory.
mygrandchildrenrock · 06/02/2022 07:50

I have a cat that everyone knows, by name, and he gets strokes, chats and affection many times a day from passers by.
We live in a holiday place and have had knocks on the door from people asking if our cat is okay because they haven’t seen him on this holiday!
My DH works in a shop in town and once told a customer which road he lives on, it’s the road to the beach, the customer said ‘oh you must know the cat x’. He is one famous cat!

Roselilly36 · 06/02/2022 07:54

Another cat chatter here 😂

Sunflowersinthewind · 06/02/2022 08:31

I love all the neighbourhood cats (apart from one who I call Human Face who terrorises everyone but I havent seen for ages). I have named them all and we divert on the school run to make sure we see all of them. One of them is my cats girlfriend whom I love.

I do wonder if my cat will appear on here as I know for a fact he is out there sometimes taking all the attention he can get.

Icepinkeskimo · 06/02/2022 15:16

We had another knock at the window earlier, the little girls again wanting to have a 'chat' with Pip and Pearl. They were napping but as soon as they heard the little ones like two furry rockets they shot into the window to greet them. Makes my day to see this.

@Changethetoner

Not cats, but I do say "hello ladies" when I pass the field of sheep. And "hello boys" when I pass the field with the two rams in it. Every time, would be rude not to. They never reply.
Oh I do that! All the ladies are very pregnant atm. When the lambs arrive they often reply to me.
