It was my DH's birthday today and I made him a chocolate cake (his favourite) with an extra refinement in the form of a photo of himself as a baby printed onto the icing for the top - it was a Significant Birthday. He was far more impressed than he needed to be, as he doesn’t understand how easy it is to do this, so I acquired some brownie points.

Feeling ridiculously tired today for some reason. I’ve been dropping off to sleep on the sofa, so I'm off to bed now.

Champagneforeveryone · 28/02/2022 22:49

In transport news, I am on an executive coach. This automotive delight is ferrying 4 (yes, 4) of us to our other work site while essential work is carried out at our usual site.

I should be on rest days but DH has work tomorrow so will retire to bed early, and DS is out at a quiz, so here I am.

There is no trolley.

9.30am hospital call me to cancel today results meeting at 11am as results are not in and have put it back a week. Just hope they are in by next week.

Had a video call with my lovely Sicilian former flatmate who lived with me 20 odd years ago, she introduced me to her cats then her boyfriend.

Our neighbour phoned DH and said her aerial had fallen in the storm and could the repairman go on our roof to put it back. DH said he could not make that decision by himself and came to ask me. Hmm I told him yes.

DH took a call that DS was missing from school but I realised it was only 10 mins before the end of the day and DS is a creature of habit and only goes to our house or school so said wait 10 mins and he will appear then we will phone school. And indeed he appeared.

I decided that a thatched cottage may not be optimal if a nuclear bomb hit, it seems whoever designed them 500 years ago did not factor that in so was looking on Rightmove for homes on remote islands in UK with good cancer hospitals. That seemed to limit it to Orkney, their hospital is seriously impressive. The property starts off as land for camping (you'ld be brave), goes to wrecked houses (like no roof, no windows etc and looks last occupied 50 odd years ago), then cheap houses then goes to more expensive castle like houses. DH was not convinced and instead found a giant house up a mountain on the French / Spanish border. I did point out it looked like Dracula's castle. DH laughed and agreed when I showed him Dracula's castle.

Silkie, I am sorry the test results are delayed. It is so hard to wait.

I had an ovarian tumour removed last year that the pathologists agreed was very rare, but they could not agree on whether it was benign. I got told to be safe they were referring me to our cancer agency for consideration of chemo etc. and to expect a call. After another good month my surgeon phoned and said the cancer agency pathologists didn't need to see me and no further treatment.

I hope your results are as good even if it takes a long time.

I made a Spanish tortilla for the first time tonight. It turned out great. DH made a fuss when I was mid cooking as he thought he had requested one of my "frittata things." Yes, but I seized the day and tried a new recipe. DH loved it but being half Irish I think it was the potatoes. A keeper recipe anyway.

I think I might try softening the potato slices in the microwave just slightly next time to speed things up. I read that hint from a Spanish cook so perhaps it is not too sacrilegious.

HelenaJustina · 01/03/2022 06:45

Not too long to wait prok
I’m waiting today, for the email about DC3’s secondary school place… in this local authority, you can’t log in to the portal until you get your email. And I can’t remember from past children what time it will arrive.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 01/03/2022 09:14

@IWanderedLonely another Da iawn and may I add ‘Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus’ (happy St Davids Day), the Welsh patron saint day which is today.
DD has gone to school in her red hooded top, I miss when she was little enough to wear a Welsh costume, so cute.
I’m off to my special needs parents coffee morning again today, hopefully all the temporary traffic lights have now been removed.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 01/03/2022 09:17

For those not familiar with a Welsh costume …..

Champagneforeveryone · 01/03/2022 11:17

Sorry to all those waiting for phone calls. Predictably, I am also still waiting to hear from my mortgage company Hmm

Currently sat in my hairdressers where my presence appears to have lowered the average age by by around 15 years. I have had 90 minutes sleep so the hair washing was a test of strength Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 01/03/2022 12:32

Now DH (Who is well known on this thread as a Dressing Gown Of Doom Monger) has been sent home from work for having a positive LFT.

I find it somehow oddly amusing that the man who can catch the worst version of every sniffle going, has now managed to contract Covid once the requirement to isolate is over Grin

IWanderedLonely · 01/03/2022 17:21

Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus Shoes and Lemons
Glad you gave me the translation - I'm still very much at the beginner level and no matter how many times I listen I can't pronounce the "chi" bit of sut dych chi.
I have an 8 foot fluorescent light tube to dispose of at work. No idea what I'm going to do with it.
Silkie sorry your results have been delayed.

HelenaJustina · 01/03/2022 17:37

Hope he avoids giving it to the rest of the household champagne! Good luck!

Happy St David’s Day and Happy Shrove Tuesday to all. May your Welsh cakes and pancakes be delicious

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/03/2022 18:21

My news for the day:
I am having my last piece of chocolate until the 16th of April.
Temperatures are below zero again, but it is dry.
And my flexi time account is 17h in the red.

Silkierabbit · 01/03/2022 18:27

Thank you. I have managed to get one medical appointment at least this week, otherwise I would feel lost this week. Grin I also managed to get through to endocrinology as they want my bloods on 23rd March to explain may be doing chemo or radio then and would that date still be OK. They said as long as was well enough yes but if I am called in to do bloods before just get the people doing the bloods to take more blood then. That would be better as I've had so many things stuck in veins they are shutting down and they can only use the one side now.

Having pancake day here and DD and DS both in school. DDs mocks have started today, round 2.

Sunbird24 · 01/03/2022 18:52

Fingers crossed you can get all the bloods done at once Silkie.
Tube strikes in London today so I had a 3 mile walk from the office I was at to the mainline rail station I needed to catch my train. Good job I wore my Skechers and not heels!

MissConductUS · 01/03/2022 19:18

Silkie, they can't just take more blood samples without knowing exactly what tests are being ordered. Different tests may require different sample sizes and have to be coded so that the lab knows what to do with them. If the orders are in your chart ahead of time, then they can take all of the samples at once.

Champagne, do you anticipate much wailing and moaning? A woman I work with tested positive over the weekend and is actually pretty unwell.

Sunbird, a tube strike? How inconvenient. When I worked in the city I commuted in trainers and kept regular shoes at my desk.

Happy meteorological spring everyone! Smile

They said the samples needed are on the system but we will see MissC I also sent a message to oncology so they are pre warned. They booked these tests about 8 weeks in advance as there are long delays for endocrinology. The communication systems are very strange - each hospital department can message me but one department does not communicate with another one so I have to tell them if I have a CT or MRI even if their department ordered it. Everything to GP goes by post and GPs are very slow at opening mail. The GP called me in the week about a letter marked urgent sent in January. But it sounded like blood requests are on a central system. The speed things are going I probably won't get bloods anyway before then though they told me there's an 8 week rule which would take them to mid March so in theory should happen before but not banking on it as that would only be a week after results.

Was interesting talking to friend in Italy, she said loads of people recently been diagnosed with cancer late following covid and huge backlogs, worse prognosis.

LoveFall · 01/03/2022 19:54

Wow, learn something new every day. I did not know about meteorological spring. Today it really feels like spring. I actually heard the beginnings of the dawn chorus early this morning when I woke up. The robins have started the long tweeting song they sing in the spring and the chickadees are busy Dee dee dee'ing.

My goodness, just heard a short but intense argument between a neighbour couple, in mandarin. Thankfully they seem to have made peace again. Seems everyone has opened their windows to the spring-like air.

Lemonsandlemonade · 01/03/2022 21:18

Happy St David’s day all. Useless fact for you now apparently St David was a vegetarian who lived on leeks and water. Not sure how we would know this.

I have enjoyed Welsh cakes and bara brith with the children. We took the children to the local cafe. It was great to do something ‘normal’. We haven’t done this since 2020.

Silkierabbit · 01/03/2022 21:48

Just had mozzarella, parma ham and asparagus pancake followed by nutella and banana one.

DH asked me if I would like a drink and elderflower or tea. I said tea please and he said OK will get you an elderflower. His hearing test is tomorrow. Grin

DD has been out and coming back by bus.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 01/03/2022 21:53

@IWanderedLonely go for ‘Siwd mai?’ (shwd maee) instead, much easier to pronounce 😁, it’s more of a familiar greeting but quite acceptable.
Sounds like a lovely treat Lemons
Hope things move speedily Silkie

HelenaJustina · 01/03/2022 22:06

I’m giving up coffee (so my last one for 40 days was at about 11am this morning) I’ll also turn down biscuits, cakes on an ad-hoc basis. I’m also doing a Walk Against Hunger challenge for CAFOD, walking 200k in 40 days.

Mornings without coffee will be grumpy interesting!

Lemonsandlemonade · 01/03/2022 22:08

I missed out saying the children in work not my DS!

@IWanderedLonely the ch sound is hard to make in Welsh. When you know someone well you could say ti’n iawn? You ok? Well you can round these parts.

Bigfishlittlepuddle · 01/03/2022 22:13

I'm still trying to get used to having long hair. The last time I had long hair was in my teens. I'm in my forties now. When all the hairdressers closed in lockdown #1 I decided to let it grow. Its fun, but I only ever have it down in bed.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/03/2022 06:18

big I am trying to grow my hair at the moment - I am in the Shetland Pony stage.Grin

High fast today, traditionally boiled potatoes for dinner and nothing else.

Is 'ch' a sound as in Ach or Ich? They are different.

Lemonsandlemonade · 02/03/2022 07:38

@Prokupatuscrakedatus ch as in ich the sound comes from the back of your throat if you see what I mean.

Wow never heard of high fast
