Sue Yes definitely a lot of you are talking too quietly / not clearly here though not even DH could accuse the Silkie when she has laid an egg of being too quiet / not clear and it goes on for 15 mins of egg song. Grin When I told him he said yes I cannot hear from the one ear at all.

DH has gone to get more renal diet cat food and also getting a Chinese from the Chinese there. Getting pork dumplings then pineapple fritters in golden syrup. Our village Chinese does not do either of those. Sad

Nydj Sweetpeas are lovely though I did plant two at our old house and the one just went everywhere, loved it though.

DD is back from the gym and says she bought 4 yoghurts and DH bought her two of the same which she said was lovely but said each one contains 20% of her daily protein. She also added they are on offer, buy 1 get 1 for 5p. That explains why DH bought 2.

Blustery but beautiful walk today.

halfpasteleven · 26/02/2022 21:27

Hope you're safely home Miss.

I'm surprised I haven't caught it yet either but I'm thinking it's only a matter of time.

IWanderedLonely · 26/02/2022 21:43

I had a hearing test about 3 years ago as I was convinced I still am I was going deaf. Really struggle on the phone and anywhere with background noise. Audiologist said my hearing was fine & no wax & that was that.

Lemons sorry I missed wishing your brother a good outcome earlier.
My granddaughter (just turned 4) is snoring next to me. I have a spare bedroom decorated for grandchildren but she was determined to sleep with me. DH will have to tolerate the spare bed.

MissConductUS · 26/02/2022 21:56

So I'm back in the cold, with snow on the ground, and the pool is but a memory. One cat seems happy to see me, the other is ignoring me. She's probably cross because I left without permission. I am still glad to be home. DH is making burgers on the grill for dinner tea. Smile

Lovely picture, Lemons.

I have to have a hearing test for work. My last one the lady said my hearing was "perfect"

She then ruined it by adding "for your age" Hmm

sproutsandparsnips · 26/02/2022 22:10

Where's that photo Lemons?
Have 3 long days (12.5h) shifts in next 3 days coming up so trying to relax but also get ahead.
DS is being dropped home by a friend's mother and I must wait up to let him in.....

Bigfishlittlepuddle · 27/02/2022 00:52

Its ten to one in the morning and a complete bastard is moving furniture in and out of a white van outside my flat. There are so many hours in the day, why this time?

LoveFall · 27/02/2022 02:07

@Lemonsandlemonade

What a beautiful photo. I would love to go on a blustery walk there.

mathanxiety · 27/02/2022 02:57

I hope your noisy and unsociable neighbours improve from a shaky start, Bigfishlittlepuddle. Or that he isn't a new neighbour and simply moving furniture.

Lemons you wouldn't be able to keep me at home if I had somewhere so beautiful to walk. Sending good wishes to your DB.

MissC your Florida photos are beautiful. We are still a long way from Spring here, though they're selling potting soil and seeds in my local Walmart. I may plant some seeds indoors and then put them out when frost is finally past.

The queue for petrol was crazy in my local Costco today but the price there is much better than the wild prices closer to home. I bought a rotisserie chicken in Costco and made a chicken pot pie for dinner. There's enough leftover chicken to make something else chicken-based tomorrow.

Prok, your account of your MIL gradually losing the ability to connect with the rest of society is sad. My mum has spent the last 30 years waving away all attempts to teach her the rudiments of digital photography with her phone, texting, e-mail, and basic internet. So for her there is no WhatsApp which would enable her to chat for the cost of broadband with her US grandchildren (and me for that matter) and the resulting loss of the chance to forge relationships with them. We talk by phone. It could be a lot worse of course - she's completely compos mentis and fit as a fiddle at almost 90 - but it could also be a lot better.

HelenaJustina · 27/02/2022 07:35

I’m doing a rosy chicken today.

DC1&2 are doing another practice hike, I’m going to 9am Mass with DC3&4 as I’m doing Children’s Liturgy. DC3 has a party this afternoon, DC4 has pony club and DH is going to a Spanish guitar concert. It’s going to be a busy day to finish the half term.

I think DH needs a hearing test, we all get accused of mumbling quite a bit…

HelenaJustina · 27/02/2022 07:53

Rosy chicken? Roast chicken!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/02/2022 09:37

Bright and sunny day here - but, of course, cold again.

I prepared the little 'greenhouse set of shelves' - cleaned it, put it in its proper place, etc. - so we are ready to start with the seeds.

Repotting will take place next week.

I baked a last pre-lent cake with walnuts, apples and raisins, which is already half gone.

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/02/2022 10:53

Glad you liked the picture. Wales really is a beautiful country. Our are though is now busier and busier with tourists which is mostly fine but has its drawbacks.

Fuel has gone up to £1.56 a L here which is extremely high.

Might be going out for lunch to end the half term. I miss having DS with me but I do enjoy work.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 27/02/2022 11:10

I can vouch for that Lemons , it really has some beautiful picturesque places.
We are having a pork dinner today, had invited the aunty and uncle who rescued us during the power cut last week but they’ve gone to their sons instead. DD currently eating cold pizza as her breakfast.

MissConductUS · 27/02/2022 12:54

I was up early, so I've already done an hour on the stationary bike, which is a personal best for me. My laundry from the trip is done and the towels are in the washing machine now. I'll probably nip out in a bit to the warehouse club to pick up a few things and put petrol in the car. The warehouse club has its own petrol station.

I'm going to skip church because our priest is in Florida with her two kids so it's just a prayer service. Schools here are on winter break so lots of families went away. My flight back yesterday was chockablock with families loaded up with Disney toys and souvenirs.

I've learned two things this morning. From Scott & Bailey I've learned that a promiscuous man is a "shag bandit" Grin and from MN I've learned that what's happening in Ukraine is entirely the fault of the US. Coming from MN, this does not surprise me.

I read up on lent - up till 1498 only 3 mouthful of bread and 3 mouthful of a safe drink (beer if there was not clean water) per day were allowed. Today it is easier. Smile

I am currently watching Black Spot on Netflix (with subtiltes of course).

MissConductUS · 27/02/2022 17:04

I have a potting soil update. It was available at the warehouse club this morning, so I bought two 55 quart (60 liter) bags, which are now in the garage until needed. I may need a third bag at some point, but this is plenty to get started with.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/02/2022 17:21

Miss That sounds good. This time we get our stuff in 20l bags from this shop round the corner. So much easier to get up the stairs.

Of course, DS has started moaning already about the disruption to his daily structure.

Spudlet · 27/02/2022 17:36

Is potting soil the same as compost? Enquiring minds need to know Smile

I have spent a DS sort of a day today - we went cycling and running (I ran, he biked) this morning and covered 4 miles veeeeery sloooowly. I could probably have walked it quicker but we had a lovely chat so it was worth the steady pace. We have then been to a birthday party for one of his school friends who is a very into her hair and clothes, so it was a pampering party! DS was one of the chosen few boys in a sea of girls and loved it - he now has gold sparkly nails, although he did draw the line at eye makeup (the other boys were rocking some sparkly looks). There was a huge dressing up tent full of hats, feather boas, fans and jewellery as well as outfits, and someone doing hair as well. It was really cool, and the most relaxed I’ve felt at a party for ages as there was nothing organised! Parties can be a bit of a challenge for DS, but as this one was in a house he could take himself off to a quiet room and play by himself for a while, so it was perfect. And I had a Bellini and a lot of cake, so I’m happy too Grin We are now home and have collapsed in front of the fire 👍

MissConductUS · 27/02/2022 17:54

Spudlet, potting soil is different from compost. This is the type I buy:

www.miraclegro.com/en-us/products/soils/miracle-gro-moisture-control-potting-mix

It's aerated soil with plant fertilizer mixed in. This particular type has little white pellets mixed in that absorb water like sponges, so if you overwater, they absorb the extra. If you underwater, they dry out and give water to the soil.

The people are Miracle-Gro are quite clever. Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/02/2022 17:55

Soudlet Sounds like a lovely day!

I used the term potting soil meaning "Gartenerde" usually made from compost (no peat, of course). I hope that was right? The amount of words I never thought I'd need. Grin

Speaking of words - we came across the word "Buttenhansl" in a letter and have - as yet - no idea what the author meant.

Winky1 · 27/02/2022 18:19

I put on my walking boots on today for the first time in months

HelenaJustina · 27/02/2022 19:27

Did you walk them somewhere nice Winky?

Nydj · 27/02/2022 19:38

I sowed the sweetpeas today 🤞that they germinate!
