Would you mention this to somebody?

Hi! I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.
My ds(9) goes to a musical theatre school on Saturdays. There are only a few boys so they all tend to stick together as a big group at break times.
Ds told me that last week a new boy started in his class. DS befriended him and invited him to sit with the group at break time.
The group then called the new boy "weird" refused to talk to him and moved to sit at another table.
I felt awful for the new boy and we've had a few conversations about bullying behaviour this week.
But my question is, am I being precious in wanting to mention this to staff at the school?
Supervision is poor at break time so I think they won't be aware.
On the one hand ds is trying to say that it only happened once and the others are being friendly now (but the new boy doesn't reciprocate, surprise, surprise!)
On the other hand I really feel for the boy. It must have been hard for that to happen and maybe staff should keep an eye on him?
What do you think?
Thanks!

I would. It's not going to hurt to say something.

I would. How awful for him.
