Please help - flying within UK to Belfast - no photo ID

I've booked a last minute break for me and two dc to Belfast next week. We fly from Manchester with Aer Lingus. I have just realised that ds2's (12) passport has expired. I have seen on the website that no photo ID is required for children travelling with a parent but the added complication is that my passport and driving licence and therefore my ticket are in my maiden name, which is not the name my dc have. I was planning to bring birth certificates and my marriage certificate. Will that be okay? I've rung the company to check but was in a queue for 40 mins then got cut off and their online chat only seems to consist of a bot that doesn't understand my question! Anyone know the answer?!

Who’s it with? Under 16 can travel on your ID with easyJet.

Inspectorslack · 05/02/2022 11:14

Shit sorry just saw you said aer Lingus

I flew from Newcastle to Belfast a couple weeks ago. Nobody checked my ID at either end, just the boarding pass

It’s within the common travel area so I think if I was you I’d have birth certificate and marriage certificate and you’ll probably be ok. Does dc have any kind of photo Id like a bus pass even?

He has no photo ID at all, though I do still have the expired passport! I just wish I could speak to them.

Twitter maybe?
It would be appalling if it isn’t OK. You aren’t less of a parent just because you don’t have the same surname.

Hi there no idea on your actual query I'm afraid but go onto aer lingus Facebook page and message them that way, I've had to do that twice in the last week and both times they have responded within the hour and very thorough helpful advice both times. Def worth a try. Hope it works out for you

Some airlines accept passports that are up to two years out of date for travel in the CTA.

Travelled London to Belfast and vice versa. No one looked at id.

Countmeout · 05/02/2022 21:35

Is it because you now download your boarding pass onto your phone and you’re therefor verifiable?

They barely glance at them. You should be fine. I live in Belfast, it's great. Hope you have a lovely trip!
