Why can't it be me? So jealous.

Why do these sorts of things only ever seem to happen to other people?

Did you buy a ticket?

SillyBub · 05/02/2022 11:20

It was me!

Hoorah, I can now pay my gas and electric bills for the next 6 months Wink

PaulaTrilloe · 05/02/2022 11:21

I wish they had many more chances of smaller yet still life enhancing prizes eg £500k enough to buy a home.
Maybe the lottery good cause could be a social low cost housing project

BrieAndChilli · 05/02/2022 11:22

I also think - wouldn’t it be better for 109 people to win a million each? That’s enough to buy a house/pay off debts/stet up a business etc

Two weeks ago the Euromillions prize was 100 x £/€1,000,000. That’s 100 lives changed rather than one life potentially ruined. Much better, in my view.
toomuchlaundry · 05/02/2022 11:29

I always wonder if life with your friends changes if you won that much. Couldn’t exactly join in their gripes about rising fuel costs, where they can afford to go on holiday etc.

Also you would want to share the money to family, but I bet that can cause arguments over who to share it with and how much

this can't be done all the time though as it would leave too many millionaires and cause inflation for the rest of us.

if you are stupid enough to tell them then yes

@mahoncash impossible to keep a 109 million win any secret for nearly everyone I would think. It will lead to an entirely different life for most.

toomuchlaundry · 05/02/2022 12:27

It would be pretty sad to win £109 million and not change your lifestyle in any perceptible way so your friends wouldn’t notice

mahoncash · 05/02/2022 12:32

depends on your life, I am in my 30s and live alone and fairly anonymous in London. I rent and have friends but I only ever visit them when I do so no I could hide it. Again it totally depends on your circumstances.

they don't visit me as I live in house shares, that and they are either married or in full time jobs and I work long hours so again they don't know my lifestyle much.

toomuchlaundry · 05/02/2022 12:38

But surely if you won that amount of money you would buy a house and not have to live in house shares anymore.

And if you carried on your life as normal what is the point of having that amount of money in the bank.

If you went out to eat with friends wouldn’t you treat yourself to something slightly more expensive on the menu.

mahoncash · 05/02/2022 12:56

ofcourse but I wouldn't have to tell everybody/anybody. I am very private.

i didn't say i'd carry on as normal, I said i'd not broadcast it.

and what would be so expensive in a typical restaurant me and my mates would go to that if i got something expensive they'd assume i win the lotto?

If you win that much surely you would share some with your friends?!
I’d be dishing out at least 3 million each to my 6 old school friends and a million each to a few others I’ve aquired plus £ 5 million to each sister (3) and a million to each nephew niece (8) maybe more once they reach 21 and similar to in-laws. I’d still have plenty left. Yes I have given it’s lots of though Grin

mahoncash · 05/02/2022 13:02

through seeing people living in house shares in similar situations I would say there are much more people who could keep it secret than you'd imagine. Many have little contact with family and have no kids/spouses and have a few friends but friends who wouldn't be living in their pockets.

the problem with that is tax which is quite heavy.

sashagabadon · 05/02/2022 13:06

I’d suck the tax up!
I’d rather do that than live pretending I haven’t won any money and hiding my tracks constantly so no body realised.
I’d never get away with it anyway, my sisters are too nosy. I was pontificating upgrading my car the other day and my sister claimed I’d obviously paid off my mortgage GrinHmm
I haven’t!

DowntonCrabby · 05/02/2022 13:06

I’m not checking if it was me, I’ll just keep the hope going for a while longer Grin

bindud · 05/02/2022 13:11

I won.... a few quid 😭

bindud · 05/02/2022 13:12

I would, no point in 100m unless I can live it up & that would include friends & family. Id be making like JLo!

Guacamoleontoast · 05/02/2022 13:16

I would go on all those holidays I dream of but can't afford. I'd love a rail trip through the Rocky Mountains to start with.
It must be hard to keep the money secret unless you continue your present lifestyle, and if you do that, what's the point of winning?

UseOfWeapons · 05/02/2022 13:26

Haven’t checked my ticket yet. I’m leaving it til tomorrow , and if it’s me, I’ll be calling in sick on Monday!

Which tax? Should be inheritance tax free as long as the giver survives 7 years?
