Short hair styles for girls

Hi
Can anyone recommend a short hair style for a 4yr old girl? Looked on google and not found anything i like and my daughter likes them all Grin
At the moment her hair is long but she hates to have it washed/ brushed and refuses to have it put up or to wear clips or bands so it get in her way at nursery and when playing.
So i think best is a short cut for now.

Is it straight or curly?
How about a little pageboy bob?

I just cut it all the way round in this pic from last summer. Not sure it's a particular style but it looked good. She's had the fringe since she was about a year.

It was down past her shower blades and I cut it to here. Was last chance to have to nice and short. It won't stay in clips as it is too fine so I'm having to let her grow it again now so in Sept in can be tied up for school.

Much prefer short hair but long is actually more practical to tie up I think unless you go full pixie cut

Drill down to why she doesn’t like hairwashing / brushing first. Does she have curly / coily hair? If so you need to not use hairbrushes and detangle with conditioner and your fingers / a wide tooth comb. If shampoo stings her eyes or she doesn’t like the out of control feeling of washing under a shower than trial other products / teach her how to wash over the sink. At 4 I wouldn’t expect any child to remember putting in their hairclips or bobbles - so I would pick ‘indestructable’ hairstyles. Eg braids / pineapple ponies work on my 2 year old.

How about this?

DD had curly hair at that age and also already fairly thick. We had it cut in a bob with a fringe until she was around 7. Far easier to deal with, no drama with clips unless she wanted them.

She had tons of hairbands as well.

But I agree, get to the bottom of the issue first, we tested tons of shampoos and conditioners and hairbrushes before we found what worked for her. Apart from Childs Farm anything marketed towards children were actually the worst offenders for us.

My dd has the haircut above. She looks lovely but wants it shorter. Our hairdresser won't do it tho, too nervous, which is ridiculous as she happily cuts ds' hair. I think she will go pixie next time. She just hates the feeling of long hair.

Sorry tagging on my phone is a nightmare

She has wavy hair that gets knotted easy

She used to have bobbles and clips in but for the last year she refuses, full on screaming tantrum if i try, if i manage to put one in she either pulls it out or will keep asking for them to be taken out. Can distract her but will then ask again.

Nursery has tried but shes the same there minus the tantrums she just refuses.

So far have tried different types, let her pick her own ect

But she will let the hair dresser cut and comb it

It's probably a sensory thing - if she doesn't like the "tight" feeling of having hair tied up or it being combed. She is only 4, can she not just have what's comfortable for her and easy to look after? I have to say (it comes to us all) if she gets nits you will be glad of short hair.

NotMeNoNo · 04/02/2022 17:47

Why not just a bob with a fringe - nothing to tie up or get in her eyes.

My DD had typical long little girl hair - also wavy and knotty. She's now in her teens and has it pixie cut short and loves it. I think she wishes she had had it short since she was little. It's so much easier to look after. I think short hair looks sweet and so few girls have it short now.

lifeisalwaysstrange · 04/02/2022 17:53

I think it is more sensory then anything shes not a big fan of having her head touched anyway.
She has an appointment booked at the hairdresser so hoping i can get 2-3 ideas and daughter can choose one

Her hair looks like that pic now but longer Grin

A short bob that sits about mid-jaw length is probably the shortest you could cut her hair without it being pixie.

Donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust if it’s long enough (minimum of 7 inches needed) Smile

DD had a pixie cut at that age. She loved it!
