What did you do for your 40th?

40th birthday is fast approaching, no idea what I want to do to celebrate.

Don't want a party.

Would quite like to be away somewhere. Options are a week away (with the DCs) or a weekend (either just DH and I or with the DCs too). No idea where to go, since lockdown i've turned into a bit of a hermit!

What would you do/did you do for yours?

Is there anywhere you’ve always wanted to go?
I went to Rome with DH for mine.

Me and 24 friends and family (no kids) rented a house in Brighton for the weekend. It was epic!

Flew to Nice for a long weekend, bliss!

A family member threw me a small party in their garden (a few months early as I have a winter birthday).

We had a small guest list - just family and a couple of friends who I’ve known since childhood who are part of the family by now. I deliberately didn’t invite anyone who I hadn’t seen in ages, or had to come from a distance (so there was no “I reallly must make sure Anna is having a good time as she’s travelled so far” pressure). It was all reliable people who don’t need hosting.

It was an afternoon job, a few nibbles lots of cake and chat. Over by 7.

Went to Egypt for a couple of weeks. Often go away that time of year.
Was on a small group tour but only DH knew :-)

Lockdown, so DP came over for the day, which we spent in bed. Apart from going to the chippy to buy lunch which we ate in bed Grin It was actually really, really lovely! No fuss, no fear of being disappointed, just fizz & chips, just the two of us.

BestZebbie · 05/02/2022 00:13

It was always going to be a hot air balloon ride....which got downgraded to a promise of a future ride and an afternoon tea with family on the day due to covid uncertainty.....which got downgraded to some cards to open over breakfast when I got a +ve lft on the birthday morning....

More lockdown fun, shared a bottle of tequila in a cold, damp back garden with DH and 3 mates. Grin

Divebar2021 · 05/02/2022 00:19

DH and I got the train down to Barcelona ( the sleeper via Paris) and spent a few days there before flying back and watching Patti Smith play in Hyde park.

sashh · 05/02/2022 02:05

I had a weekend in London with a theatre trip

Agadorsparticus · 05/02/2022 02:06

Went to Paris. Stayed in a gorgeous hotel suite in a fab hotel. Took DC to Disneyland Paris too. It was great.

Rainbowshit · 05/02/2022 02:25

Stayed in a hotel on the amalfi coast with an infinity pool. Total luxury.

ExhaustedMumma · 05/02/2022 05:07

Couldn’t make many plans due to Covid and being pregnant. In the end, we were away in the uk. The weekend before we’d gone camping with a big group of friends and had a celebration there which was nice.

Given the choice I’d do a child free weekend away to somewhere lovely and relaxing with a spa. Dormy House maybe?! Then I’d do a family party so the kids feel included in the celebrations!
