Do teenagers go to discos any more?

My DC is a bit bored at the moment and I was just wondering where the discos have gone (I think they’d love to go!). Any discos for teenagers around your way?

Nope, not a disco in sight anymore, the local roller hockey team run a disco night fundraiser every so often, but not a weekly under 18 disco of the 90s.

megletthesecond · 03/02/2022 22:08

Don't think so.

Mamadothehump · 03/02/2022 22:10

Mine don't.

hellcatspangle · 03/02/2022 22:10

Ah those were the days. Highlight of the week was the under 16 disco at the local church hall on a Friday evening....

Dry ice, sweets for sale in the foyer, someone always crying in the loo cos her boyfriend was being a nob 😂

SpikeySmooth · 03/02/2022 22:18

No. Not the done thing. My teen goes to friends' houses for a chat, or to a coffee place, or bowling.

Discos were a dying breed in my area from my early teens...late 80s/early 90s?

ponkydonkey · 03/02/2022 22:25

They go to raves...and take illegal things
Or get drunk but not at the same time as they'd have a whitey

lollipopsandrainbows · 03/02/2022 22:30

There is a thing called Shutdown near me. For 14-17 year olds but the ticket prices are extortionate. My DD has been raving about it for months...but she's 13 and I'm not risking paying the ticket price for her to be turned away.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 03/02/2022 22:31

We used to go to the ice rink disco on a Friday night to have a snog round the edge and listen to happy hardcore.

Used to go to youth club discos but would have been quite young for those, maybe 10-12.

apprenticewage · 03/02/2022 22:33

I'm in Ireland and all of my cousins between the ages of 14-17 go to discos but they call them "balls" (don't ask me why 🤣) obviously not since covid but yes they do here.

milkysmum · 03/02/2022 23:04

No non round here. Mine have joined a gym now but to be honest I think they just go after school, do bugger in the gym or whack a tennis ball round for 30 mins and then sit and chat in the cafe!!

mamaduckbone · 04/02/2022 17:02

Nope, no discos here. The assembly rooms disco used to be the highlight of the month when I was a teen.

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoorNeil · 04/02/2022 17:08

The youth club next to me has a disco every Friday. They even have a fish and chip van that turns up (( church hall type affair in a deprived area so it's free)) theyre a good bunch of kids, it makes me feel all wistful seeing them totter past dolled up to the nines choking in a fog of Lynx and Ariana Grande perfume 😂😂😂

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 04/02/2022 17:18

until a couple of years ago we had a roller disco locally, but the company went tits-up Sad

my 14yo likes a gig but even the small ones can be ££, and it's a more adult environment, which does give me the willies a bit.

DistrictCommissioner · 04/02/2022 17:23

The Young Farmers do discos around here Grin

Theimpossiblegirl · 04/02/2022 17:31

We have Young Farmers' discos around here. They can be a bit wild! Cider country.

willweevergetthere · 04/02/2022 17:35

Send them to Explorer scouts- they plan and run their own program so it's what they want to do

Wafflesnsniffles · 04/02/2022 17:46

No discos when I was a teen in the 80s/90s. No parties at school either. We had a leavers disco on a thames barge and that was it.

Pinkymcperky · 04/02/2022 18:01

Young Farmers discos - only went once but the word in the street was they were wild
