I've been over paid

I work for the NHS, I began as bank staff and was made permanent in September 2021, my contract is for term time only, but payroll has been set up incorrectly and I've been paid as if I were not term time only.

I've been unable to see a payslip since September (the whole onboarding process has been a bit of a shambles) I've been asking and asking for access to my payslip's. My manager phoned me and dropped the bombshell that they'll be adjusting my salary to recoup the overpayments.

The extra money was masked because I moved up a pay band upon being made permanent and my weekly hours increased by 5hrs.

Whilst it's incredibly frustrating I'm sure there's nothing I can do. But I wanted to take five minutes to post and see if there was any advice. I'm assuming the salary adjustment will be over the same amount of months I had been receiving the overpayments? And they won't be able to take it all back over 2 or 3 months.

It's worth discussing their proposed repayment plan with them and if it's too much, ask them to reduce the repayments over a longer period of time. If you leave it up to them to, they'll probably take it back really quickly.

I'd ask for a repayment plan and give them a small amount each month. When I left the NHS, my manager was late putting in paperwork so they assumed I still worked there. I was overpaid on my last month by over £500 they wanted it all back asap. They offered a plan but I wasn't working for the NHS for it to be deducted.

Thanks both, I'll speak with them about a their proposed timeline.
