Under desk exerciser - any point ?

I sit at my desk all day every day on back to back calls with limited breaks when WFH.

I am conscious this is not good- but I have little control over my diary.

Does anyone have one of these? exerciser

are they a gimmick or do they do anything useful?

You won’t use it. The positioning will be all wrong for sitting on your desk chair -just look at how uncomfortable it looks to ‘cycle’ in the video. You wouldn’t actually be able to do any work whilst using it so it would be pointless.

You would be better off either getting a treadmill/exercise bike to do 30 mins on at the end of your working day, go for a walk each day or get a standing desk (or sit to stand so you can do a bit of both)

You can even get something that sits on top of your existing desk that can make it a standing desk

I have a £20 version to prep my muscles pre knee replacement surgery
Makes my thighs ache a tad so assuming it does something

You'd be better investing in a sit / stand desk you then at least aren't sitting the whole time and you can also walk / march on the spot.

One of my colleagues tried a smaller version of this. The pedals take your knees above the height of a standard desk, so you’d have to sit sideways to do it.

Gimmick.
My dad has one and it’s awful. So little resistance on it that it’s jerky to pedal and if you were sitting at a desk I think you might keep hitting your knees. As your sitting down you’d barely raise your heart rate. Better to clear half an hour in your diary at lunchtime and get out for a brisk walk.

I have a sit/stand desk and do meetings stood on a wobble board, and it is incredible how my body has to work at that without me thinking about it really, but also my back is appreciating it. But I vary it through the day which I like.
Someone on here was standing on a mini trampoline, but I'm still not sure I could manage that

Didn't a mumsnetter recently invent some sort of amazing standing desk with a mini trampoline? I think I could possibly have dreamed that!
