What do you pay for your electricity?

I know this has probably been done to death...

I’m with E.On Next. They’ve sent me a bill, the equivalent of which works out as £421 per month.

I live in a small 2 bed flat. Well insulated. Just me and DD here. I’m out at work, and she’s at school. As far as I’m aware, she’s not growing a cannabis farm.

They have meter readings so not estimated.

Do you mean that was your actual usage or what they are offering on a new fixed rate tariff?
Is it just electricity you have in your flat?

Kitkat151 · 03/02/2022 10:30

My electric was 85£ for last month ( I also have gas) ....3 bed Victorian semi

CoffeeRunner · 03/02/2022 10:33

My monthly DD is £135 for electric & £65 for gas. 3 bed semi/terraced (linked by half a room width Grin).

Absolutely dreading the prices going up as that is already hard to afford each month.

That’s what they’re saying my usage is. I know it’s an error - but trying to get that through to them is proving difficult!

I don’t have a direct debit set up - I pay a quarterly bill, and the bill they’ve given me is the equivalent of over 400 quid a month.

I just have electric, no gas.
We have storage heaters in the flat, but I never have them on.

I use the payment meter things.
For my electric in December it cost me £90 and in January it was £100
I am in a 3 bed house.

threecupsofteaminimum · 03/02/2022 10:40

That seems a lot, I'm with British Gas, 2 bedroom flat and I pay about 80 quid quarterly for electricity, gas is about 200 quarterly.

emmathedilemma · 03/02/2022 10:40

2 bed flat - less than £100 a month for gas and electric

Twixie2022 · 03/02/2022 10:44

4 bed house and £150 G&E a month direct debit. Last two months have averaged at 190 actually usage however it will even put over summer. That seems a hell of a lot they have sent you. Hope you get it sorted OP x

3 bedhouse, 3 adults often working from home - about £55 per month electric

dementedpixie · 03/02/2022 10:59

Are you on an Economy 7 tariff OP? If you are then you may be using electricity at the wrong time of day and therefore your bill is higher. Have you left your hot water on all the time?

Ineedsomeluck2022 · 03/02/2022 11:03

I'm in a two bed flat. All electric heating which we have on every day. Bills around 120-150 in winter months. Definitely sounds like you are paying too much or there's an error.

Douchebaggette · 03/02/2022 11:06

It's really not about how much you pay - it's about how many kwh you use. If you know how much you use over a year, you can work out how much you should be paying.

It is really, really, really worth doing the maths because it takes some power and mystery away from your provider and allows you to pay an amount each month that you know is correct and won't leave you in debt or paying more than you need to.

dementedpixie · 03/02/2022 11:09

OP isn't paying a monthly direct debit. She's been sent a quarterly bill based on readings.

Are your storage heaters switched off at the wall? What sort of tariff do you have?
