Sweet little gestures ypur other half does for you

Thought I would start a thread for the sweet little gestures that make you smile 😊

I mostly work from home now, while dp often has early starts (today he left at 5am 😴)

But whether I get up with him or not, when I go downstairs after hes left for work, he always leaves my cup with a teabag in it, and teaspoon balancing on top, and enough water in the kettle.

I just love this little gesture, when hes having to get ready for work super early and im still snoozing upstairs, rather than being resentful of my extra sleep, hes being so thoughtful and doing something to make my morning easier when I do eventually get up 😊

Does anyone else have little seemingly small but super thoughtful gestures that their other half does for them?

My Dad always picked the first snowdrop he saw when driving around for work and brought it home for my Mum.

Snorkello · 03/02/2022 16:17

Mine does the same with my coffee Smile and also makes sure my phone is on charge when he wakes up. Nice start to the day!

Makes me a cup of tea and fills my flask before I go to work on a morning.

We have a whiteboard inside the medicine cupboard where we write down if either dc has needed calpol or something, along with the time and dose. Sometimes he writes me little notes. Because it's inside the cupboard, visitors don't see them so they feel private and special.

DH has programmed Alexa to say a lovely message when I give it the cue I've finished for the day (WFH). Makes me smile, especially when I've had a crap day.

My DP takes a mental note when I say I really like something (food/drink wise) and then picks it up a few times during the week when he's out. We now have a joke that anything I say I like, I get so much of it that I stop loving it!
Also, he makes my coffee every morning!
Another thing he does that I always think is thoughtful, if there's something that's gone wrong (bad but not urgent news, car problem, unexpected expense etc) then he will never tell me later than early afternoon so I don't stay up all night worrying 😂

My DP 99% of the time does the dishes.

We've always left them after we eaten in the evening and done them first thing.

I'm currently on maternity and my ds is 5 months old.

He still always makes sure he gets up early enough to do the dishes and when I come down each morning the kitchen is clean and tidy and I can't tell you how much I appreciate this.

He actually does so many things and I find myself saying thank you far more than he has things to be thankful towards me at the moment (yes I know I'm looking after his flesh and blood) but you know what I mean.

My OH always boy the first bunch of spring daffodils he sees in the shops. And a bag of popcorn to go with them. Sounds odd but when we meet we were uni students and broke. This is what he brought me the first time he came to my house to watch a movie after we were "official" ....19 years on and still going strong.

He buys me chocolate when I'm moaning about my periods. He rubs my feet for me every single night and kisses my neck before I go to sleep. He loves me waaaaay more than I deserve and if I had to sum him up in one word I would say devoted. He is a most excellent Dh and dad to our kids.

I make him food. That loyalty is very easily bought 😂

Tea in bed in the mornings normally, chocolate bars when he knows I'm feeling grumpy, G and T made whenever requested!

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 03/02/2022 17:11

Ahh that's actually sweet!

Mine are silly things that probably won't mean nothing to other people but he gives me the gherkins from his burger, my ex would order his without. Bastard.

He blasts the heating in the morning so I wake up nice and toasty while he heads out in to the cold, cuts the whites off my egg when making breakfast and most importantly tells me every Friday "dont worry about starting dinner il pick up a chinese" ahhhhh.

Axlcat · 03/02/2022 17:34

Cup of tea in bed every morning. But lots of little sweet things. Currently he’s hiding chocolate eggs everywhere in the house (I found one on my clean bath towel yesterday on my way for a bath and one on my pyjamas!)

ChatterMonkey · 03/02/2022 19:03

Aw its so nice to hear all the little gestures that make such a difference!

Theres definitely some good eggs out there!

I think most of the things my husband does for me are actually for the kids, but the fact that he always does them without question or complaint means I don't have to, iyswim... So the main one is that he always gets up around half an hour earlier than me and makes the kids' breakfasts and packed lunches. I literally never do them!

Perhaps when they are all a bit older I'll get a cuppa in bed but for now I am happy for the extra 30 mins sleep!

We make each other hot drinks all the time fwiw, but I get that having one made for you first thing is very sweet and I'd love that one day!
