Who remembers the Burford Browns egg chat ?

I bought a large box recently because Waitrose don’t seem my usual St Ewe ones. Because we suddenly had to leg it north for indeterminate period I brought them with me unopened.

Left them at MIL house because hotel had no facility to cook them to eat at lunchtime etc. . Now MIL for years, has poured scorn on my insistence on free range eggs even going as far as swapping eggs from boxes to trick me ! I thought they were therefore safe!

Nope the bugger has gone and eaten more than half the box ! And spurned her —disgusting— cheap barn eggs which are still in the fridge!

Well tonight I am putting the rest in the kedgeree and making sure I have the dark yellow yolks! I will get to try them!

I tried them, but prefer Tesco Finest or Morrisons Maran Eggs.

Westpoint · 02/02/2022 19:30

I do! I used to only buy BB eggs. I live in the States now and have to spend a small fortune on heritage eggs.

Cookerhood · 02/02/2022 19:32

Our Tesco have stopped doing them. I like Tesco chestnut maran or St Ewe if I'm on a ocado shop

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/02/2022 19:33

St Ewes eggs are lovely. I remember the thread and preferred St Ewe over the BB.

SilkLabrador · 02/02/2022 19:39

We have our own chickens 😎

BoodleBug51 · 02/02/2022 19:41

We get Clarence Court BBs from Waitrose.

Once you had them, you're spoiled for life.

Can't touch other eggs now.

TheChosenTwo · 02/02/2022 19:42

We have Burford brown hens in our garden! The eggs are really nice, I never bought ‘cheap’ eggs before we had our own hens, they are pale and lack in flavour let alone going into the ins and outs of their welfare.
Enjoy your kedgeree!

2022sucksalready · 02/02/2022 19:44

Must have missed that thread, but love CC BBs. I’ve converted my neighbours on both sides to them too. I’d be raging at your MIL for that!

Cookerhood · 02/02/2022 19:51

We also have a local farm that delivers day old eggs & they are delicious. They left everyone a free box as a marketing exercise last year & they were amazing. We don't eat enough to put in a regular order which is ashame.

These are the best eggs ever. The perfect egg
ponkydonkey · 02/02/2022 20:14

If I didn't have teenagers I'd buy them
But they honestly don't know the difference! But if they had to choose they'd eat my special eggs, wine and all manner of things they can't afford

Deliaskis · 02/02/2022 20:18

Gosh I've found my people, have been buying only BB eggs for years and decline pale insipid eggs from other places!

I need to now go and research St Ewes though, in case I want to defect....

dudsville · 02/02/2022 20:26

Pale eggs make me squeamish, but I'd never had BB eggs before last year. I was quite taken aback by the nearly red yolks and at first struggled a bit. I do like them but hard to get my mind away from relating the colour to blood!

TheChosenTwo · 02/02/2022 21:26

St Ewes are nice, we buy them when we’re down in Cornwall as the farm is local to where we go on holiday. They’re good substitutes for when we aren’t at home!

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 03/02/2022 12:33

Well I did the taste test last night. In my view they are not as good as St Ewe but better than bog standard free range.
@TheChosenTwo

Very interested to read you have stayed near the farm - what is it like ? Can you see the chickens?

OP posts:
TheChosenTwo · 03/02/2022 14:24

Oh no, not near enough to see the farm or the chickens, I think it’s about 15 miles away, but we just buy them from the little local corner shop because they look like the best choice!
Sorry, perhaps a bit misleading Grin

TheChosenTwo · 03/02/2022 14:25

And also Rodda’s butter Smile

TottersBlankly · 03/02/2022 14:32

I seem to remember being awarded a 🥇 from Ocado a couple of years ago because I’d bought more Clarence Ct Old Cotswold Legbar eggs (the beautiful pale blue) than anyone else in my locality.

I brimmed with pride …

Just realised that in my lifetime so far I’ve kept chickens, ducks and quail - and never sold a single egg.

I love these

I get them for me (others suffice with Ocado free range etc)

Also like the box

MarshaBradyo · 03/02/2022 14:35

The light blue ones are excellent too

BarbaraofSeville · 03/02/2022 15:05

I bought BBs on the back of that thread and couldn't tell the difference between those and our normal eggs (M&S box of 15 unsorted free range eggs for £2 or Morrisons pick your own and fuck up getting them through the self service till.

Clawdy · 03/02/2022 16:02

Has to be Clarence Court eggs for me. I've bought eggs from farmers' markets, and they are nice, but prefer CC.
