What would a non binary teacher be addressed as?

dd’s school expects all teachers to be addressed as ‘sir’ or ‘miss’. She’s just asked me what a non binary teacher would be called. Any ideas?

Easy; the teacher will also be known by their name as either Mr Biggs or Ms/Miss Biggs (their choice) Take your cue from the title.
ScreamingBeans · 02/02/2022 19:20

Not sure but pretty sure the kids will get some kind of terrible punishment when they forget to pretend they don't know what sex the NB teacher is.

Gregsprinkles · 02/02/2022 19:21

"Teach" apparently, at the local secondary.

What does Mx stand for?

Mamamia7962 · 02/02/2022 19:23

Looking at that link OP it's all far too complicated for me.

@OnceuponaRainbow18

What does Mx stand for?

Georgyporky · 02/02/2022 19:30

DD could ask whether s/he has a penis?

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 02/02/2022 19:31

@sadpapercourtesan

How do you pronounce Mx?!
Mex or mix.
Tal45 · 02/02/2022 19:32

Jesus Christ people need to stop worrying about their gender ie a social construct based on stereotypes and just concentrate on their sex. It makes life so much less complicated.

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 02/02/2022 19:33

When I worked in Asia all the kids called me Teacher Wooly (with my real name of course). It was a really good way to do it I thought, prefer it to Sir or Miss.

WonderfulYou · 02/02/2022 19:34

Poor kids having to stroke them's ego.

There’s often threads about people not wanting to put their titles in emails and things at work.

A lot of workers feel they’re judged if they’re male or more usually female so it’s not always because they’re non binary.

I can see a lot of people preferring to be called something that is sexless.
I always feel odd being called miss even though I am classed as a miss.

Wonnle · 02/02/2022 19:34

Has this always gone on or is it because of anti social media hype that it's the hip and trendy thing to be/do ?

StellaGibs · 02/02/2022 19:39

Whatever their preference is, as simple as that.

Dubbin · 02/02/2022 19:40

When my mother was at school in the 1940s, teaching staff were addressed as “Teacher”i the schools she attended. Maybe we should go back to that. Hated being called “Miss” when I taught. Insisted on Mrs Dubbin! 🤣

musicalfrog · 02/02/2022 19:43

The kids at my school call me Mrs when I'm a Miss. I don't bother correcting them, they're more used to Mrs obviously and I'd rather they weren't worried about getting it wrong.

MinglingFlamingo · 02/02/2022 19:46

The none binary woman at the school I work at is referred to as Mx

cushioncovers · 02/02/2022 19:47

Same as in hospitals. If you're a nurse you get called nurse if you're a doctor you get called doctor. So the kids can call their teacher, teacher.

Georgeskitchen · 02/02/2022 20:00

Kids being kids, who are well known for homing in on the tiniest of weak spots, would have an absolute field day referring to as teacher as Mux 😉

ambushedbywine · 02/02/2022 20:04

BellatricksStrange · 02/02/2022 20:05

Seeing as they can't define woman - 'it means so many different things to different people', just go with Sir, and explain that according to your definition of sir it fits.

KittenKong · 02/02/2022 20:06

@Soontobe60

Pronouns - Miss, Mrs, Sir are based on a persons sex, and not gender.
Or just call them ‘teacher’.
poorbuthappy · 02/02/2022 20:08

How do we say Mx. Pls.

KittenKong · 02/02/2022 20:09

Mixxxx? This is getting silly. ‘They’ should focus on the children and treat Miss or Sir as sex based.

But the kids see the teacher in 3D every day.

They know what sex he/she is.
