We're due to go abroad in May but due to health complications (mine) it looks like we'll have to stay in the UK. We're based in the Midlands. Has anyone had a really fun/special holiday that they can recommend please? DS is 13.

What does DS like?
So, if he's football mad, can you find a match to watch, and the look for stuff in that area. Or music, or history or watersports? So come up with something for him, to narrow down the search?

Fort William & walk up Ben Nevis or Wales & Snowden - you could do the train in you are not well enough.

Activity based holiday such as centre parcs. The cost there is per chalet so he could take a friend for company if he is your only dc. Extra activities can be pricy though so decide before you go what you can afford.

You could go to a place that has many activities . I can think of the Lake District . You can go with a company that does Ghyll scrambling. Another day Go Ape at a few forests ( high assault course/ high wire activity ) their are also Slate mines you can be shown through and a High rock climb activity at Honister Slate Mine.

Retallack Resort in Cornwall

Brighton? You have the i360, museums, tours, escape rooms, restaurants, shopping, the pier, the beach. We live fairly local and my two teens think it’s a ‘cool’ place to go.

I was recommended a combination of Liverpool and North Wales where there’s loads of active stuff.

What is he into? I’m not sure climbing Nevis/Snowden is going to be your average 13 year olds idea of a good holiday!

The area around Aviemore and Glenmore is fantastic, mountain biking, climbing, high ropes, sailing. My DS loved it as a teen.

My DC loved Center Parcs as teens.

Mine would love Alton Towers.

We had our best family holiday in Newcastle. Great city with fun restaurants etc. but also hadrians wall for walks, wet and wild for water activity. My teens keep asking to go back.

Manchester, especially if a football fan.
