If you're 33 (or thereabouts), how much do you make?

Just came back to the workforce from a long career break to have DC.

I'm almost 34 and on £50k. It's London, so it feels like it doesn't go very far here.

I just feel a bit stuck and well behind where I should be, but I guess that's what happens when you take time out to be a sahm?

Curious to know where others my age are at.

34 55k plus bonus.

callingon · 04/02/2022 16:52

I’m 31, earn 17k for a term time only job and I have no kids. Do I win? I do have a mortgage and two degrees. Does that make it better or worse?

I'm genuinely interested....which specific ones do you NOT believe. Is there a certain number that you refuse to believe could be a woman's salary? What's the highest number you do believe? [/quote]
I wouldn't be able to identify particular ones. It's just that I am absolutely certain not everyone is being totally honest.

Tellthemagain · 04/02/2022 16:59

75 at 33 a couple of yrs ago. but that was a London salary. Working in construction at manager level. I think I got that salary at aroud age 31 and it gave a 15k step up from the role below.

Trisolaris · 04/02/2022 17:07

@00100001

So, you earn a high salary but can’t believe that there are so many people on this thread as special as you so some of them must be lying?

bumblefeline · 04/02/2022 17:10

I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this thread.

People can make anything up.

I'm thick and had kids young so I only earnt minimum wage.

Ijustneedtosleep21 · 04/02/2022 17:13

£52k @34 based in South West

Ijustneedtosleep21 · 04/02/2022 17:14

Forgot to add I'm on second mat leave of a year but this will be my last.

caoraich · 04/02/2022 17:18

34 and on 74k. I went back at 80% post mat leave.

Tellthemagain · 04/02/2022 17:22

if you Google jobs over 60k near me (I'm in the north).. hundreds come up. not sure why people would find it difficult to believe people actually do these jobs

qualitygirl · 04/02/2022 17:23

@00100001 but regardless of whether they are telling the truth or not...why are the figures not believable? I would say all of the figures on this thread are very believable. My boss is female and earns circa 85k, her boss is also female and earns 110ish. Females CAN be high earners...

MissVictoriaPlum · 04/02/2022 17:30

36 and I earn 26k for 28 hours a week. I used to be a teacher and made it to the giddy heights of head of department but walked away from it because I had zero life around it.
So compared to you I am a massive loser, and I will probably stay that way for the rest of my working life

Cattoes · 04/02/2022 17:36

33, £12k

RobinPenguins · 04/02/2022 17:38

I wouldn't be able to identify particular ones. It's just that I am absolutely certain not everyone is being totally honest.

Why? What would be the point of lying? No one is pretending this is a representative sample of the population.

Greenhippoblue · 04/02/2022 17:52

NW, 34, 2 mat leaves so far on 43k + 10k potential bonus. Much lower than many on here but very comfortable compared with the vast majority of people I know in the real world (lawyers and doctors who are just getting consultant roles aside) with a great work life balance - flexible hours, wfh, great company culture etc.

Greenhippoblue · 04/02/2022 17:54

Also should add I did a PhD so didn't start working til 27 and have changed careers twice since.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 04/02/2022 18:08

At 33 I was earning £45/46k (Manchester). That was full time equivalent - I was working p/t after baby 1. Four years and another baby later I am on around £70k full time equivalent (still p/t so actually earning less than that).

00100001 · 04/02/2022 18:15

Because it's the internet. People lie all the time.

I never said the figures weren't "believable".

I just said that I think some people are telling fibs. Because it's the internet.

scintilla87 · 04/02/2022 18:29

34, £80K + shares.

I’ve had two children in the last three years. First mat peace was 8 months, second was 4 months.

My company is based in London but I live in a cheaper parter of the world so my salary goes further here which allows me to save. In fact, I pay far less now on rent for a 4 bed house than I did for a 1 bed garden flat in Battersea 8 years ago!

scintilla87 · 04/02/2022 18:30
  • Mat leave not mat peace
Wedonttalkaboutboris · 04/02/2022 18:39

I’m 32 and on 40k - I also thought I was doing ok until I read this thread! Shock

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 04/02/2022 18:40

I have had a mat leave of a year

Greenhippoblue · 04/02/2022 18:58

@Wedonttalkaboutboris you are doing ok! Comparison is the thief of joy. These threads always disproportionately attract super high flyers who always seem to have time in the middle of their busy working days to be reading and posting on Mumsnet...

MaltedMilk88 · 04/02/2022 19:01

46k basic plus benefits, car health etc
Terrible pension
Usually about 20k bonus

Very stressful job, went back to work ft after Dd was 6 months, she's 3 now - I often wonder if it's worth it

Big mortgage but no other debt - working hard to pay this off, I'll reevaluate I think as I get older

I'm 34, dh earns around 45k same age and we live in the midlands
