If you're 33 (or thereabouts), how much do you make?

Just came back to the workforce from a long career break to have DC.

I'm almost 34 and on £50k. It's London, so it feels like it doesn't go very far here.

I just feel a bit stuck and well behind where I should be, but I guess that's what happens when you take time out to be a sahm?

Curious to know where others my age are at.

32, on £27k. No career break, not much if a career tbh, though I've bounced through a few management roles. South West. Got an MSc. Always done well in jobs and been promoted but never quite worked out how to get on a 'ladder'.

DH earns £60k+ so that helps.

Bit tone deaf OP to be honest Confused

And remember comparison is the thief of joy

beaverdiego · 02/02/2022 15:51

Same age. No kids 😔 no career break, FT, less than £30k.

Smarshian · 02/02/2022 15:52

My FTE is £36,500. I work 4 days. Have just applied for a promotion which I hope to get, the role is £51k FTE.

I'm 31 and was earning £21k before having my babies and becoming a SAHM. DH is on a bit less than £25k, and we manage on that one salary as a family of 4! Not entitled to benefits due to our savings, but we don't have to dip into them unless there's an emergency or for a special treat. We own a modest house and a newish car each. I can't imagine how people on a decent salary spend all their money!

doadeer · 02/02/2022 15:57

I earn £36k doing 1 day a week as I care for my son but I do a very flexible job.

£50k is a brilliant salary.

TashieWoo · 02/02/2022 15:57

I’m 33 and earn just over £48k in London. I haven’t had any career breaks yet but I didn’t start this particular career until I was 26 so I do feel like I’m playing catch up. I started on £22k and have worked my way up through a few job moves, there is still a way to go though. I’m going on maternity leave in May but plan to only take about 7 months.

helpingbereavedperson · 02/02/2022 16:01

I'm on 42k but I only work three days a week. Have had two maternity leaves, just under a year each.

Rrrob · 02/02/2022 16:01

32 and £85k FT, I work 4 days. Scarily my take home pay is almost non existent once nanny and commuting costs have been paid.

hm1610 · 02/02/2022 16:01

30 and just over 40k. In Scotland.

BubblesThaDragoon · 02/02/2022 16:12

I’m 27- just got a promotion to 32k and live in West Yorkshire. Its a comfortable salary in proportion to cost of living around here - well it will be once I pay off my ill thought out debts taken out at ages 18-22 🙂

Tosement · 02/02/2022 16:38

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

From a poem I have hanging on my wall.

Violetroselily · 02/02/2022 16:47

I'm knocking on 32, and am paid £68k in London (and I am underpaid for my sector)

00100001 · 02/02/2022 16:50

39, £63k.

Elsiebear90 · 02/02/2022 16:52

I’m 31 and on 40k in the Midlands.

DinosApple · 02/02/2022 16:54

Suffolk, 19k (only do term time so take home much less) age 39.

Reckon you're doing ok OP Grin.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 02/02/2022 16:58

Blimey there are some good salaries here. I'm 34 and earn £27k working full time for the local government.

AperolWhore · 02/02/2022 17:03

36 and on 55k basic plus 20-30k bonuses paid quarterly.

ByMyName · 02/02/2022 17:04

Mid 30s with my own business, work part time. I take £100k in salary, benefits and dividends. Someone in my field of work in a job would probably make £60k ish full time.

It’s very stressful, it works while the kids are small. I’ll rethink when they get older.

FinallySomeNormality · 02/02/2022 17:15

Almost 33... I earn around £75-85K (depending on bonus) and work 4 days.

D0lphine · 02/02/2022 17:16

You're not going to get a good range on here OP because it's self selecting.

You can see the average wage for your age here... occaminvesting.co.uk/average-UK-salary-by-age/#average

Ages 30-39: £30,865 (median)

But remember this will be skewed as men earn more and people in London earn more.

The article looks at numerous variables.

People on here saying they earn more than £60,000 are actually in top 10% earners for their age so try and keep that in mind and don't feel bad!

ThatDreamSheep · 02/02/2022 17:19

31, £9.00ph part time, Devon, 2 kids.

Ridiculeisnothingtobescaredof · 02/02/2022 17:20

I'm 30 and i make just under 20k per year

Username916 · 02/02/2022 17:26

33 on 34k. I genuinely felt like quite a high earner until this thread! I was on £10 ph this time last year.

FrostedCupcakes · 02/02/2022 17:32

I'm 32 and on £54k. FT, no career breaks and will be going on maternity soon with my first very soon. I'm North West based.
