I’m so tired!! Insomnia killing me

For the past week I’ve woken up continuously through the night and have actually got up at 4am every morning. Today I am literally zapped of energy completely. I took the dog for a walk at 5:30am but I didn’t enjoy it like I normally do, I’m so fucking tired. Since I got back I’ve laid on the sofa under a blanket. I’ve had two coffees, need a 3rd.

I’m meant to be at gym at 9:30 for a tone up class but I just can’t imagine I’ll get there. I just want to sleep but I can’t.

What should I do? Lay here and hope I nod off or just get dressed and go to gym (even if I’m only half present)

Also due to start period anytime now so my mood is not at its best. My back is hurting, stomach is hurting, ankle hurts … feel like absolute shit to be honest

Insomnia sucks and is completely debilitating. Pills leave me groggy next day and shop bought stuff doesnt work. I finally learned a bit more about herbs and now brew my own tea which I have in bed before sleeping and its really helping. ( valerian, hops, chamomile, passionflower, skull cap are the herbs to look out for)

Insomnia is torture, I mainly get it the week before my period. I get in a vicious cycle of worrying about not sleeping then not being able to sleep!

Insomnia sucks.
Things that helped me... No chocolate after 7pm
No caffeine from 3pm!
Both of these would result in me waking in the night unable to get back to sleep.
Tea as suggested above, twinings and clipper do good sleepy blends. But I would get myself hydrated around 8pm so I could be confident that after a final wee at 10 I would make it through the night without needing a drink or needing to pee!
When I was a bit more organised a gentle yoga stretch session near to bed time would improve the quality of my sleep.

Of course there could be other reasons at play, how are your stress levels?

And to actually answer your question...as long as you can get there safely (safe to drive?) Then go to the gym, come back and sleep. Don't have any more caffeine until you've tried to sleep!

How old are you OP? Perimenopause can cause insomnia. Or it can be a histamine related issue. Have you tried taking something like Nytol which is an antihistamine? (I'm sure you have tried everything but it's always worth mentioning).

Reading this and noting that you have insomnia, stomach pain and joint pain, I'm wondering if you suffer from hayfever or have any suspected food intolerances? Because they might all be linked.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 02/02/2022 13:30

The thing that helps me is to stay up as late as I can, until I’m literally nodding off as I walk upstairs to go to bed.
Are you near peri menapause age?

There are quite a few threads on insomnia - including a really recent one with tons of contributions. Might be a good place for you to start if you're looking for advice.
