Has anyone had toenail surgery - is this normal after 8 days (picture warning)

My son had toenail surgery 8 days ago they cut out both sides of the nail. He is still getting blood and pus soaking through the bandage and today he said it was throbbing but it isnt now.

The podiatrist did say it would be red etc but im not sure if this is normal or if it may be infected?

If anyone has had this would you mind taking a look to see if this is a normal healing wound?

Hello, I had mine done about 8 months ago. I also had the white colouring around the edges which at the time I was worried about but was normal and no issue. I also had a bit of dried blood for quite a while. But I never had any puss, and I never had any pain at all (which I was amazed about). I would be a bit worried he has an infection.

Should add im no expert, so the puss and pain may well be normal - just know I didn’t have that part of it.

My daughter had ingrown toenail surgery years ago.

From memory they looked a bit like that a day or two after surgery and the district nurse who came out to change the dressings said she (DD) had to go back as they'd done something wrong and have it done again. So she did which none of us were pleased about but unfortunately I can't remember what was wrong about them. After that she was fine and recovered quickly.

So, get a second opinion from somebody who knows about these things!

I hope he doesnt need it done again they had some trouble getting the nail out so its possible it may not have been done correctly i suppose?

Was it juts a few days after its been 8 days now and it hasnt really healed at all i wasnt sure if that was normal!

Go and see your GP please op, I've had repeated ingrown toenail surgeries and the two occasions it became infected it looked like that. The antibiotics kicked in quickly and it was all fine in the end, is the toe too sore to be washed in warm soapy water at least with a bit of TCP in?
