Hello!

We're looking to book a holiday this year and are looking for recommendations. We've will have a 5 year old and 4 month old and are looking for somewhere in Europe that fits the following:

  • Easy to get to from a London airport (aka no changing flights)
  • Relatively cheap costs when we get there - eating out etc
  • Relatively cheap accommodation
  • Not full of lager lout types
  • Nice family friendly beaches
  • Interesting things to see and do for the 5 year old
  • Nice culture... bonus points for beautiful old towns

We're currently thinking a Greek island, however not sure on costs when we get there etc. Completely open to suggestion though Smile. Bonus points for great hotels!! We'd be looking for a hotel with a pool.

Rhodes. Regarding hotel what is your budget? I go to a particular resort in Rhodes but it isn’t the cheapest because it has 8 Ala cartes and amazing facilities.

Why I say Rhodes:

Cheap to eat and drink out
Not a traditional stag destination
Under 5 hour flight
Many flights weekly
Polite people
Stuff to do
Great beaches

I'd say hotel budget for a week around £750, though relatively flexible as would like somewhere that's a nice place to be!

Ibiza, the nice side! Be careful with flight choice though or it will be the stag / hen express.

Can I ask which resort please? We're looking at Rhodes, different needs to OP, just DH, Ds(15) and I.

To prcent complete highjack of thread, Porto Pollensa on Majorca is fab for holidays with little ones.

@BlueBloodedBlue it’s Eden Roc at Kalithea

@Wellington17 I do recommend Eden Roc. 8 Ala cartes. Slides pool. Splash pool for kids. Huge Olympic sized salt water pool. Shingle beach. Great bars. Brand name alcohol. Also about a 20 minute bus ride to town costing €2.

Corfu is very nice, and very possible to stay away from the booze and clubs. Same with northern Croatia.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 01/02/2022 16:28

Croatia is really nice.

Mger2 · 01/02/2022 16:57

Fly to Corfu and then take the ferry to Albania (30 min boat if memory serves)

It messes with your first point, but not massively.

Quieter. Cheaper. No brits.

The Dalaman area of Turkey (Olu Deniz, Hisaronu etc NOT Marmaris)
Aout 4.5 hour flight. Apart from Marmaris there are few teenage parties although lively bars/restaurants. Children are always made very very welcome.

All these suggestions are fab - thanks!!

Ixia on Rhodes is quieter and it's pretty cheap once you are there, the star ratings are somewhat optimistic so don't expect a 4 star even 5 star to be posh but price was attractive. I stayed b&b because it's close to Rhodes town and it's restaurants.

Another thought is Sicily, very child friendly as far as restaurants, plenty of history too. I wasn't visiting with kids so can't suggest hotels.
