Drinks and nibbles -what would you like?

After two very long years some friends are coming over for drinks and nibbles at the weekend! Wine What would you like to eat? I'm an OK cook and have time on Friday to prep. I would like to so some sort of mini tart thing, maybe a savoury mousse? Also brown bread and smoked salmon. Lots of cheese and crackers. No food allergies but I hate goats cheese and about half the group don't love fish.

I’d probably keep it simple and go for a charcuterie/grazing board type spread!

Maybe bake your own bread if you wanted to get busy in the kitchen or make a dessert?

gogohm · 31/01/2022 21:04

I would bake focaccia and serve meats, antipasti etc simple

bassackwards · 31/01/2022 21:06

Olives
Nuts / pretzels
Cheesy twist thingys
Chorizo / saucisson / cocktail sausages
Crudités & dip
Smoked salmon on bilinis/toasts

I'm very hit and miss on bread baking but foccacia is a good idea. And yes, lots of meats. Will add to shopping list. I have some gorgeous olive oil I got as a Christmas present which I'll bring out.

As a guest I would want simple things. Crisps, dips, nuts, breads, olives, cheese.
But you could make little wontons with a sweet dipping sauce. Filo pastry bundled at the top with a nice filling. Also, posh pigs in blankets are amazing. Take the stone out of a date, pop a slice of chorizo in the space. Wrap with streaky bacon. Skewer with a cocktail stick. Bake for 25 mins. YUM.

I'd like you to make cherries wrapped in bacon:

-Slice American style smoked bacon into smaller pieces,
-wrap glacè cherries in bacon
-fix with tooth pick and
-bake in the oven until the bacon is sizzling

I'd also like mini caprese salad bites

And

Nachos and cheese with nice homemade salsa

Thank you!

@blinder your pigs in blankets is so like my glace cherry suggestion, ha! I'll have to give yours a go

Nostrings457 · 31/01/2022 21:09

I’d like a

  • baked Camembert with seeded Italian breadsticks
  • stuffed peppers with ricotta cheese
  • chilli cheese nuggets
  • lot of nuts

Really cold G&Ts and cheese straws, warm from the oven. The apotheosis of drinks and nibbles, IMHO

CrimbleCrumble1 · 31/01/2022 21:12

My friend makes honey mustard cocktails sausages and they are delicious.
I like warm cheese.

SquigglePigs · 31/01/2022 21:13

Your bread/salmon and cheese/crackers would already have me happy. I can't eat much, if any, pastry and often find I'm struggling with "nibbles" so I'd be delighted with that as a starting point! Having said that your little tart suggestion is good, or bitesize homemade sausage rolls would be good.

Marinated chicken would be great - maybe tandoori or tikka with mini naan bread.

Dips with crudites/bread sticks work but you do need little plates if you're going to do this.

A slightly retro one but mini bitesize toad in the holes with cocktail sausages have always disappeared quickly whenever I've seen them as canapes.

Bitesize bruschetta would be nice.

At a wedding last year they had sausage meat balls with a sticky sauce on that were amazing! This would work well with meatballs of any description.

Ok, maybe I've got a bit carried away but most of those could be made completely, or at least heavily prepped, in advance.

Hope you enjoy!

Don't forget Pringles

healthylifestylee · 31/01/2022 21:16

Camembert is one of my favourites and something I'd do for guests

Pucarbuile · 31/01/2022 21:17

Oh wow, so many amazing suggestions. Thank you all. I think I'll have to invite more people to make a bigger menu!

Currently ploughing through Pringles, worriedmummyofboys Blush. I'll put some away for you.

Are you sitting round a table for drinks and nibbles - if so I'd think about tapas style plates - prawns, chorizo in cider, manchego cheese with honey drizzled over it, padron peppers, homemade croquettes (good arm muscle work out!) some tortilla slices - plus the bread/ham/cheese etc

Nitflux · 31/01/2022 21:23

Nigella does these amazing sticky cocktail sausages which always go down a treat. I’d like those and Parmesan biscuits please.
