What's Calla D'or in Mallorca like?

Evening all. Trying to book our first holiday abroad in 4 years, and have narrowed it down to Rhodes or Mallorca.

I know Rhodes very well, have been there several times and even worked there for a season (though the village we'd be booking in would be new to me), but I've never been to the Balearics before, and only briefly to Spain.

I'd love to get some knowledgeable opinions please! There'll be 4 of us, and the DC will be 10 and 8 by then, and we'll be staying in a villa.

I stayed in Cala Minor and day tripped there. It is very pretty, and the nearby caves are well worth a visit.

You can go on boat trips etc, I think it would be a magical holiday.

I love Rhodes. We always go to Pefkos, it's lovely.

Cala d’or has 3 small cove beaches rather then one large on
Lovely street where all the restaurants are
Marina
About an hour transfer from hotel
Busier than other tourist to end but by no means mobbed. Just lovely IMO

I know Pefkos, and I lived in Lindos. But the place we'd be staying is a village called Fanes on the NE tip of the island, which looks pretty but there doesn't seem to be much there. We are limited by our budget and because we really want a villa, and this fits the bill, but I wonder if it'll be too quiet, even for a quiet family holiday.

Plus the flights, in terms of both length and timing, are preferable to Mallorca.

We went to Cala D’Or, the kids were 2 and 6 at the time so really little, but we had a great holiday. The Main Street with all the restaurants is good with lots of choice of where to eat and then the marina is really nice and a bit more upmarket. The only thing I would say is the beaches get very very busy and it can be hard to get a spot near the water, we were in a hotel so often went to the hotel pool and just did a shorter visit to the beach earlier or later in the day. I’d definitely go there again, we had a great holiday.

It’s a lovely resort. I have been a few times and always stay in a villa. It’s family friendly, has lots of places to eat out, and is pleasant to wander around (particularly the marina). Due to covid, we’ve not been for a while, but look forward to going back next year, all being well.

Thanks for the advice, we've now booked Cala D'or for the last two weeks of August. Excited!!

(Just need Covid to feck off so we can definitely go!)
