Moving to Liverpool from London

Hi Everyone. We are looking to move from London to Liverpool this year and looking for advice regarding areas/schools etc. We have 2 DC 6 and 9 and really want a friendly nurturing primary school, but obviously close to good secondary schools, as this will be important soon. We have been looking at Aigburth and Crosby, but aren't tied to these areas. Looking at 3 or 4 bedroms with a garden. Any advice or recommendations would be very much appreciated. It is a big move and I am finding it all a bit overwhelming!

What’s your budget? How close to Liverpool do you need to be? Have you looked at the Wirral - West Kirby has everything you would ever need for a growing family and is 30 mins on the train from Liverpool city centre.

How close to city centre do you need to be? Formby, Ainsdale and Birkdale are all nice areas, or Hunts Cross, Garston, Allerton.

Thanks for replying. Budget aroun 400,000 We are both city lovers, but will be working from home mainly so don't need to be in Liverpool on a daily basis. DH doesn't want to live in the Wirral really. Proximity to good schools is main priority, along with good transport links as we have family all over the North West.

If proximity to good secondary schools is a priority then Wirral is a good option. The good secondary schools in Liverpool are generally church schools with church attendance requirements for entry, private schools or highly competitively selective.

You need to be careful. Your budget is healthy so you shouldn't have any issues finding somewhere.

Liverpool has the Blue Coat, which is an excellent state school but highly selective.
You then have the option of Merchant Taylor's girls and boys in Crosby.
They are the only secondary schools I'd send my own children to if I still lived in the city.

I lived in L17 for many years and it is a great place, with Sefton Park, Otterspool and Lark Lane on your doorstep, as well as easy access to town and beyond from St Michaels station. Just check the school catchments carefully because there are some i wouldn't touch with a barge pole, ESLA being one of them.

Thanks you all. Food for thought. We are not religious, so church schools would be out for sure and we couldn't afford private anyway. I will do some research on catchments.
