Should I just go with the only builder who sent a quote?

Contacted 4 builders recommended by friends. 3 replied, 2 turned up, 1 quoted. He was very thorough and gave a detailed quote and my friend said his was the cheapest of all the quotes they got. Should I just go with him?

Can you list out what he quoted for?

If he's got a good reputation and you can see his work, that's always a bonus. Is it a price you're happy to pay?

I would always get a second quote as a minimum (unless it is a small job under £1000 and time critical).

Try Checkatrade or similar to find a builder.

I don’t think you’ve got a choice, have you? If he’s recommended by a friend, that’s probably as good as you’re going to get.

I'd probably go with him if your friend was happy with the work and price.
