That white thing on the edge of my eyelid? It's really sore.

You can scrape it off with your fingernail. I get them when I'm tired. Have no clue what they're called but they're bloody annoying.

It didn't come out! How weird.

Third time lucky...

Looks like a stye to me - something caught and irritating your eye lid. I've had it a couple of times - both after grooming my dog.,. Grim but they eventually popped with a teensy bit of pus and that was it really!

Jux · 31/01/2022 01:30

Really? Just scrape it off? I'll give it a go when I go to bed. Thanks.

They are bloody annoying!!

Yes they rub off your eyeball and it's maddening. Can be hard to get at with your nail as well.

Kickers567 · 31/01/2022 01:38

My DH had this and the optician said to hold a hot wet flannel over it for a few mins and then massage, do this a few times a day and hopefully within a week it should pop. I think his popped the second time, but it had been there a few days before he had this advice. Don't know about just trying to scratch it off... probably would be more painful and risk getting bacteria inside.

Looks like - Meibomian gland dysfunction. Hot cotton wool or cloth over it, rub eyelid gently to release the clogged oil.

PutTheBathOnPlease · 31/01/2022 02:28

Google “chalazion”, looks like it could be this. If so, hot flannel twice a day worked for mine

Nearlyadoctor · 31/01/2022 06:33

Chalazion - hot compresses with a flannel as hot as you can stand at least twice a day. Then wipe the eyes with a clean pad/flannel. Some decent lubricant drops ( Eg Hyloforte) should also make the eye more comfortable.
Don’t try and ‘ scrape’ it else you’ll be at risk of infection.

SofiaAmes · 31/01/2022 06:38

chalazion

I've had these before and they are so annoying. Get yourself t to a chemist and got some Golden Eye and it should clear up pretty quickly.

Ah, thank you all so much! I tried to scrape it off with my nail last night but couldn't see without my specs. I showed it to dh this morning, and he's had it a couple of times himself and just scrapes it off, so I asked him to do that for me.

Somewhat later there I was kneeling before him looking up and right as far as I could while he scrapes at my eyelid with his very well-sterilized nail..... got it! Yes, then hot pad and some disinfectant on a cotton bud (ow) and it seems fine and delightful, but I'll keep an eye on it (ho ho) over the next few days.

Thanks to you all. I must admit after the first reply I didn't check back here but just went ahead once we'd got up.

Hit it with a Bible.

JaneJeffer · 01/02/2022 12:18

Ah good @Jux hope it's better now.

Jux · 03/02/2022 02:17

@JaneJeffer, yes, all fine now. No sign of infection, soreness didn't last the night.

@BluTangClan, that was going to be my next sortie into treatment territory of course! My husband had one ready and waiting.... Grin
