Wanted: fancy malt drink

Imagine Horlicks or Ovaltine, but actually delicious.

You know how you can get some bang-average hot chocolate, and it's fine, but then you get a fancy one, and it's amazing, and makes you think of sitting in a continental piazza sipping the rich chocolate goodness on a crisp winter morning?

That... but for malt drinks.

The nearest I've found is Milo, any ideas would be gratefully received.

This Jamie Oliver got chocolate recipe is delicious and contains horlicks powder, so tastes malty.

My DC are dairy free and hate vegan Horlicks but it's got caclium and iron in it so whenever they have a hot chocolate I slip a teaspoon in, so they have one of cadburys powder, one of vegan Horlicks in with Koko super milk. The other day I tried it to make sure it wasn't too hot. It's so creamy, is definitely recommend.

Try making Horlicks with Oat milk, and a dab of brown sugar 👍

Thanks folks, the Jamie Oliver one looks really interesting @NannyR (even though I have a deep seated resentment of Jamie Oliver that I can't explain).

I'll also give Horlicks + Hot Chocolate a go...

I tend to make hot chocolate or malt drinks w/ a nut or oat milk normally (though I do drinks cow's milk too) - so an easy first thing to try is a dab of brown sugar :-)

off subject a bit - when I was growing up in Australia (eons ago!) the milk bars use to do icy cold malted chocolate or caramel milkshakes with a scoop of ice cream mixed in
(drools at the memory...)

I make a horlicks or hot choc in the velvetiser and add a dollop of biscoff spread once the milk has warmed up a little.

I like Ovaltine 🤷‍♀️👵🏻

Sous chef do a Spanish hot chocolate that's really thick and full of spices like cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon. It's very lovely.
