After the kindle kids fire

DD (7) has a kids kindle. We’ve never got on with it and find it a pain with constant storage issues and slow downloads.
We are thinking of getting her a new device for her birthday. What device has your child had after a kindle?

Mine had relatively cheap Lenovo laptops over locksldown and DD has an entry level Samsung phone (she's 11). They never use tablets now.

Am reading this page in my Lenevo M8. It's fast, the storage can increased with an SD card & it comes with a charging dock that makes watching films comfortable & turns it into a picture frame. Not bad for £120 - it certainly does all that my children's (school required) ipads do for a lot less money.
