Just heard the best news ever.

Our DS's best friend and his wife have been trying for a baby since the got married.
This is over 20 years.
It was her birthday today and they have announced that their baby is due in July.
They had all the tests etc.
In September 2021 they bought a puppy. Whether this changed the way they thought
no pressure.
I've known them both since they were 6 they are now in their 40's.
I've not stopped crying about this wonderful news.

Super news, I also know a lady who is pregnant with an ivf baby after 10 years. I can't imagine trying that long. I smile every time I think about it.

Wonderful , their say the ovaries have a last hurrah in your 40s .. I've heard a few stories like this .

Huge congratulations to them. The puppy thing is interesting - I know of 2 people who had moreorless given up hope of having a second child and within a month or two of getting their puppies found themselves pregnant.

@Bobobilly7 Its kind of like they stopped pressuring themselves, stopped TLC so to speak, got a puppy instead and then it happened.

Lovely news! I know someone who tried 10 years for a baby, finally had their dream come true via IVF, then promptly fell pregnant naturally!!
They now have 2 toddlers running around the place and couldn't be happier!

That's amazing news, I hope this happens to my sister and her husband, they're 35 and no luck getting pregnant, they have also just brought a puppy, please God this wonderful news happens to lots of people in their situation. X

Lovely news but please, please can everyone just stop with the myth of “just relax and it will happen” (puppy variant or any other!)

The narrative that if people "just relaxed", or "stop putting pressure" on themselves, they'd be able to conceive, really needs to stop. It's unhelpful and to be honest, just ridiculous.

Also, if I'm reading some of these comments correctly.. Is there an assumption that if you can't have kids, you get a puppy instead?! What on earth.

Really wish we could change the way we speak about infertility. The unconscious/conscious bais are still so strong, which is really sad in this day and age.

Anyway, wishing nothing but the best for the couple. Delighted for them!

I do agree the relax thing isn't very helpful. Couples are relaxed when they start TTC.

But it's amazing to hear of anyone's dream coming true, especially on the baby front after such a long time.

This is wonderful for them, but please dont share your thoughts with them about getting a puppy and 'relaxing' as this is extremely offensive. It suggests that thats all they needed to do all along when clearly they've had two decades of very real fertility issues that a puppy cannot magic anyway.

The puppy is coincidental. Believe me, if it were a solution, a lot of expense, heartache and sorrow could easily be relieved.
Putting it out of your mind/relaxing, to echo pp, doesn't make a difference.
Many congratulations to the couple though, that's just such a lovely thing to happen!

Please don't go on about the puppy. As someone who suffered for years with infertility there is nothing worse when people saying
Take your mind off it
Get a pet
Go on holiday

My best friends best door neighbours cousin adopted a baby and got pregnant the best month and so on

That said wonderful news for them
