Anyone cut their own hair with clippers?

Just as the title says!

Does anyone have cropped hair that they just cut themselves with clippers? If so, do you just do the same number/grade all over? Just trying to decide if it could work for me or not. I personally wouldn't want too much of a shaved look, but short enough for clippers, if that makes sense.

Extra thanks for photos! Smile

Yep I did my (substantial) undercut during lockdown a few times - number 2 all over. Was fine.

Yes, I did a Covid cut, I did with a (too) small beard trimmer, diy in the bathroom mirror.
But for best results you need something like this:
amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B086VYLF2B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1]] which has settings up to 20mm and seems to be very cheap now.

I did mine in lockdown. I wanted to use the longest attachment but my hair just slid through without cutting even when damp so I ended up having to do it much shorter which doesn't really suit me. Luckily it grows quick and It was woolly hat weather.
If anyone knows the secret I'd love to know!

Clipper sizes are in inches.
So a no8 is 1 inch long
A no 0 is bald
No 1 is 1/8th of an inch etc. Etc.

I had short hair for years and cut it myself with clippers and well positioned mirrors, but I usually did around a no. 4 (1/2 inch) on the sides and then scissor cut the top as I knew having inch long hair on top would be unflattering for me.

I had a very rough, quiff type cut so the actual cutting didn't really matter (a hairstylist would obv say differently) sort of like Vicky McClure the actress.

Thank you for the replies. I'm trying to decide if I'm brave enough!

I started doing mine in lockdown and have carried on. I watched lots of YouTube videos. I now use clippers on the back and sides…no 2, then the rest of the back is no3 and I have fab thinning scissors to crop the top and fringe and help with blending so don’t use the clippers there. At least in the winter you can wear a hat if you’re not happy with it, and it’ll grow out quickly.

I've always cut my own hair with clippers. It's easy once you get the hang of it. I use clippers from #2 to #4 on the back and the over ear ones then hack at the top with blunt scissors. Every now and then, when it's got too uneven I just do a 're-set' and do a #4 all over.
