Probiotics and prebiotics - help me understand them please!

Am on a crusade to be a healthier person and am really interested in pre and pro biopics. Can anyone help me unravel them - ideally looking for a brief explainer of each and then a summary of natural sources and also supplements. Asking a lot, I know but I would be very grateful.

Prebiotic are foods containing certain types of fibre which feed the good bacteria in your gut - they include leeks, asparagus, oats, bananas.

Probiotics are good bacteria. You will find these in supplements and in probiotic foods - live yogurt, fermented foods etc.

Check out the gut health doctor who is a nutritionist specialising in gut health.

Taking both at the same time made a huge difference to my health and mental clarity.

I'd just found out I had low vitamin d so was taking that as well

Thanks both - I will definitely take a look at the gut health doctor @Fleur405, are they on Instagram or Twitter?
@Lubeyboobyalt - this sounds wonderful, can I ask which supplements you are taking?

You can take a prebiotic supplement but it’s better eat probiotic rich foods.

Sorry prebiotic rich foods rather than probiotic. The supplement is usually chicory root inulin (inulin is a prebiotic fibre)
