What do you do with Christmas/birthday money for DC?

Just that really…

Still have the majority of DS’s Christmas money in an envelope in the house.

DM said I should be spending it (and similarly for any money received at birthday) on toys/clothes/shoes/things DS would like.

DH thinks we should be buying these things and all money should go in his bank account.

Just interested in what others do? I think we’ll end up with a mix… there’s a few things I know DS would like and January really isn’t a month with extra cash and then just put the rest in his bank for future use.

DS is almost 2 if that’s relevant.

I used to save some, but premium bonds with some, buy something practical like eg fleece pyjamas in winter.
I don’t ever remember buying them toys etc with it. We would have bought them ourselves

Now that they’re older, it’s obviously given directly to them and they don’t save any of it (sigh) but I like when they buy something sensible with it. The girls have occasionally gone to Primark and blown the whole lot of it. I guess that’s ok too Confused
