Would you go to GP over this mark on hand?

I have had this weird mark on my thumb/knuckle for six months now. I thought it was maybe fading a bit over Christmas but it's now come back. It isn't a mole, it's more of a flat yellow discoloured patch that feels a little rough. No creams have made any difference. Would you see a gp in case it's skin cancer? I'm worried I will look silly going in about it but it won't go. The picture doesn't show how yellow it is really and I'm anxious it could be something sinister. I just want to forget about it but everytime I notice it its niggling at me.

Would you go to GP over this mark on hand?

Does anything rub there? You’re almost describing a callous

Hawkmoth · 28/01/2022 21:42

I'd probably go to the chemist first.

MumbleCrumbs · 28/01/2022 21:44

Yes DH said callous but I do no hard work with my hands at all! I wear gloves when I clean etc. I have to use my phone a lot and he thinks that has something to do with the way I hold it?

Is it itchy? Sore? Raised?

MumbleCrumbs · 28/01/2022 21:46

Not itchy not sore and only ever so slightly raised but almost unnoticeable, the only thing is it feels a little dryer than the skin around it but that's it, and no moisturiser or anything has really helped.

I'd try a pharmacist first. You can just walk in and they are more qualified than a lot of people realise.

MumbleCrumbs · 28/01/2022 23:13

I hadn't thought of that I might try tomorrow and see what they think.

That's not cancer.

Soontobe60 · 28/01/2022 23:16

I’ve never seen a red ring like that before! 😂
If you phone your GP they will likely do a phone consultation and ask for some images. That’s what I had to do with a mole on my back. Meanwhile, stick some sudocrem on it. Sudocrem cures everything!

Gloschick · 28/01/2022 23:23

Can't see anything on the pic! From the description could be a solar keratosis. If it is, your GP can prescribe cream to treat it.

BrennieGirl · 28/01/2022 23:36

I have quite a few similar marks on different areas of my body including my hands. When the one on my hand started to go a bit red and crusty I went to my Gp to have them all checked. She said it was most likely sun damage but wanted to have the red one double checked. She referred me to a dermatologist who checked me all over and confirmed the diagnosis of sun damage. She eventually removed the one on my hand but only for cosmetic reasons. I have very pale Celtic skin and the dermatologist said it was a very common condition for people with that type of skin.

I would go to your GP if you are worried.

MumbleCrumbs · 28/01/2022 23:38

Yes I am quite pale too so in natural light it is quite noticeable. I'm not too bothered about how it looks, just don't want it to be anything nasty!

Callous or keratosis.
